Physical Education Requirements

I. Physical Education Requirements II. III. Dear Parent/Guardian,

The following letter is to outline the physical education requirements for your child. Please review this letter with your child and keep it handy so both you and your child are familiar with and understand the expectations for physical education class.

For scheduled physical education days, students are permitted to wear the following items:

- Bottoms: uniform pants, mesh athletic shorts, sweatpants that are blue, black, or gray. These shorts/sweatpants must be plain with no writing on them.

- Tops: Plain T-shirt (white, blue, gray) with no writing, any Harris school (ex. Walk-a- thon), or Southeast Delco related shirt (ex. Fear the Knight, Sport teams) are acceptable.

A school- wide procedure requires the students to have their clothing worn appropriately (shirts tucked in) at all times. Students must have their shirts tucked in when entering the gymnasium (before class) and are required to have their shirts tucked in when exiting the gymnasium (after class). Students will be permitted to have their shirts untucked only during PE class.

*Students must have athletic shoes (sneakers) on in order to safely participate in the class session. Students will not be allowed to participate without sneakers therefore decreasing their grade. For safety reasons no jewelry (includes rings, necklaces or chains, watches, bracelets and hoop earrings) is allowed to be worn during class.

Grading:

Physical education involves learning through movement. Students in PE class are expected to be prepared, participate, interact, socialize, and conduct themselves appropriately and safely at all times.

Students will be grading on following areas:

1. Active class participation and effort.

2. Positive, appropriate behavior and preparedness.

3. Continuous improvement/ Achievement in physical education.

Teamwork and sportsmanship are major qualities that are taught and practiced during physical education. Being able to work effectively with classmates to solve problems and complete team challenges is a major component of this class. In order for this to happen, students must display appropriate social interactions with their classmates.
