Welcome to the Second Life instruction manual for Mental Health students. The best way to familiarise yourself with it is to listen to the video tutorials. Simply press control and click (at the same time) on the link to make it live. The initial setting up and registering for second life is set out in screenshots (after this index) to get you started.

Exercises
Below is an exercise to help you familiarise yourself with how second life works in a mental health environment.
Exercise 1:
UC Davis Hallucinations
1) Find UC Davis using the search function (“edit” on toolbar, then select “places” enter “UC Davis” then press “teleport” 2) Teleport to UC Davis 3) Click on the large yellow object and find out/read the note card 4) Go to badge dispenser (small yellow cone on table) - add badge - keep 5) Go to yellow cylinder – add badge “Virtual Hallucinations warning” - keep 6) Go to yellow cylinder – add badge “Virtual Hallucinations about” – keep 7) Move through UC Davis gathering case notes and objects.
Exercise 2:
The Centre for Positive Mental Health
1) Find “The Centre for Positive Mental Health” using the search function (“edit” on toolbar, then select “places” enter “The Centre for Positive Mental Health" then press “teleport”) 2) Click on the centre notice board – keep 3) Click the “Welcome Ball” – keep 4) Explore the centre – practice sitting in the therapy chair etc Beginner’s Guide to Second Life

Abide by the Flinders University Computer Facility Rules (see http://flinders.edu.au/ppmanual/computing/SecD.htm) whereby the island can be understood to be a computing facility of the university
Wear clothing reasonable and fitting for scholarly activity
Not share the username and password of your avatar with others
As outlined in the Linden Lab’s Terms of Service (see http://secondlife.com/corporate/tos.php), individuals younger than 18 are not permitted in Second Life’s main grid at any time.
The island Administrators have the right to ban any person for breaching the above rules.
NOTE: Please be aware that your actions may be visible, observable, and recorded. Additionally, Flinders University may track the number of users utilising the different areas of the island.
