TO: High School Athletic Directors

MEMORANDUM

DATE: November 30, 2010 TO: High School Athletic Directors FROM: Mat Classic Medical Directors Timothy Manson, M.D. By Pham, M.D. SUBJ: Medical Staff nominations for Mat Classic 23

If your high school(s) have the services of a certified athletic trainer (ATC) and/or a team physician, we would like to extend an invitation to those valued persons to be part of the Mat Classic Medical Staff on February 18-19, 2011. Please help us out by providing potential volunteers with the application and collecting the completed forms right now, while you are thinking about it (form may be completed in WORD and e-mailed). We need physicians and certified athletic trainers who are familiar with wrestling to serve on the medical staff at the state tournament in Tacoma. Physicians serve as volunteers, while certified athletic trainers receive a modest stipend for their service. Each year, just prior to Mat Classic, we receive several calls from high school athletic trainers seeking floor privileges to care for their wrestlers at matside during the tournament. They are always disappointed to learn that only members of the Mat Classic medical staff have floor access, and that all medical staff positions had long since been filled. In volunteering, your trainer/staff will be helping to maintain the high quality of the Mat Classic medical staff. You will also be helping your team physician and/or certified athletic trainer to become part of an exciting event, while facilitating their support of the state’s best high school wrestlers. Since the Mat Classic Medical Staff is responsible for covering the entire tournament, no guarantee is made or implied that by being on the medical staff your team physician or athletic trainer will necessarily cover your school’s athletes at all times during the tournament. However, by being on the medical staff, they will be closer to the action and in a better position to work with your school’s tournament participants, and to be involved in their medical care at the event. Enclosed are forms to be used for volunteering. Please feel free to photocopy it. Applications should be sent directly to us (address is on the form) and must be received no later than December 21, 2010. We will review the credentials of the applications, and in late December, send out confirmations to qualified physicians and certified athletic trainers to join the medical staff. Thank you very much for your assistance. Timothy P. Manson By Pham 2207 N.
