Hola Friduchos!! I'm sending you this year's schedule of events. We are especially looking forward to our SELFrida challenge. We had 36 Fridas takingselfies last year and we want to break that record. If you are available to volunteer please contact us at [email protected] Fourth Annual Frida Kahlo Festival July 1st to August 12th. San Francisco, CA, June 20, 2016– The 109th Birthday Celebration of Frida Kahlo. This year we feature a new documentary about Frida Kahlo from Mexico, a mural inauguration, a FRI-DiA de los Muertos celebration, a salsa birthday party, an interactive fashion show, an art exhibit and we bring back our SELFrida Challenge. Co-presented by Cine+Mas SF Latino Film Festival, Fiestas Fridas, La Calle 24 Neighborhood Association and Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts.

Who: Christian Ramirez Balanzar and Puerto Alegre When: Tuesday July 5th- 3 to 5 pm Where: Puerto Alegre, 546 Valencia St, SF What: “La Vida de Frida” art show curated by Christian Ramirez Balanzar hosted by Puerto Alegre. The 8th year of Frida at Puerto Alegre brings a new curator and a new theme. Enjoy complimentary food and a bit of spirits in honor of Frida. This event is free and is all ages.

Who: Fiestas Fridas and Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts When: Friday July 8th- 6 to 9:30 Pm Where: 2868 Mission Street, SF What: The 109th Birthday Celebration of Frida Kahlo hosted by MCCLA. An evening FRIDArte featuring local vendors, Mezcal Tasting, a raffle of Frida art, Frida Fashions from Frida’s Closet, Salsa dancing with Susana y su Orquesta Adelante, birthday cake and a few other surprises. Who: Jingletown Arts and Janice Stamos When: Friday July 8th- 6 to 9:00 pm Where: Jingletown Art Studios, 3001 Chapman Street, Oakland What: Over forty Fridas curated by Janice Stamos hosted by Jingletown Arts Gallery. Who: Frankie Franco and Pig & Pie When: July 9th – 5 to 6:30 pm Where: Pig and Pie, 2962 24th St SF What: FRIDArte curated by and featuring art by Frankie Franco and Patricia Rodriguez. This event is free and all ages.

Who: Fiestas Fridas and Alley Cat Books When: July 9th- 6:30 to 8:00 pm Where: Alley Cat Books, 3036 24th St What: July 9th 6:30 to 8:00 pm - Artist Reception featuring large format and dimensional FRIDArte pieces. Artists include Adrian Arias, Sally Rodriguez, Carolann Espino and others. Highlighting 20 KAHLOvera sculptures handcrafted by Lourdes Moreno from Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico. This event is all ages and is free to attend.

Who: Fiestas Fridas and Luz de Luna When: July 10th, 3 to 6 pm Where: Luz de Luna 3182 24th st, SF What: July 10th 3 to 6 pm – FRI-DiA de los Muertos. A Dia de los Muertos CELEBRATION in honor of the day Frida finally got her wings and shed her earthly shackles. Frida lost her baby on July 4th and she died on July 13th. In honor of her passing and the loss of her child, we will adorn an altar. Come dressed as Frida and paint your face as a KAHLOvera. Bring an offering and help us adorn the FRIDAltar in her honor. Featuring original work by Carlos Villez. This event is all ages and it’s free, but donations are appreciated.

Who: Fiestas Fridas and Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts *** When: July 15th and 16th– 7 to 9:30 pm (doors at 6), Sunday July 17th - 3 to 5:30 pm(doors at 2) Where: 2868 Mission Street, SF What: The return of the New Documentary about Frida Kahlo, Entre el Dolor y el Placer, by Producer Noemi Cadena and Director Gabriel Santander for Canal 22 of Mexico, featuring Lila Downs. They will also present a rough cut of their new film featuring Frida’s Wardrobe which was recently released for public viewing and is currently on display at the Casa Azul. Dra. Gloria Arjona will present a multi-media performance featuring Fridas letters and vocals by the artist. This event is all ages. $15 entry, for tickets please go tomissionculturalcenter.org/tickets. ***Mercadito Frida: FREE in the upstairs gallery (during the show times listed above) featuring FRIDA clothing, art and jewelry from local artisans and FRIDArte vendors.

Who: Polu Manu Productions and Sanchez Contemporary Art Gallery When: Saturday July 23rd 5 to 8 pm Where: 1951 Telegraph Ave, Oakland What: Passion for Frida art show curated by Bird Levy and Maria Sanchez hosted by Sanchez Contemporary Gallery. In the 8th year, the show heads to Oakland and brings artwork by local and far away FRIDArtist. Sanchez Contemporary/Tertulia Coffee is a new gallery space and café focused on emerging artists of Latino or African American descent.

Who: Fiestas Fridas, Frida’s Closet and Twin Walls Mural Company When: July 24th - 3 to 6 pm Where: Frida’s Closet, 3473 25th St, SF What: The SELFrida challenge returns!! Last year we had 36 Fridas taking selfies all at once. This year we plan to break that record. We’re taking selfies in front of the new Frida Kahlo mural at Frida’s closet in the Mission. Elaine Chu from Twin Walls Mural Co. will be on hand as we officially inaugurate the new Mural. Music, food, and Frida Fashions. The SELFIE Challenge is at 5pm with registration starting at 3 PM. This event is free and all ages.

Who: Fiestas Fridas, Ragdoll Productions and Pig & Pie When: Sunday July 31st – 4 to 6 pm Where: Pig and Pie, 2962 24th St SF What: Our third year of a Poetry Open Mic with our host Raggedy Andy from Ragdoll Productions and her stellar crew of Santa Cruz poets. Poets have up to 5 minutes with sign ups starting at 3pm. All poets to be accompanied by our Congero and percussionist, Frank Guzman. Frist prize is $50. This event is free and all ages.

Who: Fiestas Fridas and Sanchez Contemporary When: Friday August 5th – 6 to 8 pm Where: Tertulia Coffee- 1951 Telegraph Ave, Oakland What: Our second Poetry Open Mic goes to Oakland. Join us at Tertulia coffee for a First Fridays Poetry Open Mic. Poets have up to 5 minutes with sign ups starting at 3pm. All poets to be accompanied by our Congero and percussionist, Frank Guzman. Frist prize is $50. This event is free and all ages.
