Of All the HOGS Events to Date What S Been Your Favourite Course?

Name: Richard Jordan

Of all the HOGS events to date what’s been your favourite course?

A: Being a new member of the HOGS, I haven’t played that many events, so don’t really have a favourite. They’ve all been good.

What golf course would you most like to play in the UK and Overseas?

A: Any that will let me play. For this country obviously St. Andrews, just to say I’ve been there. As for abroad, somewhere that is a little forgiving for my bad game.

What currently is your favourite golf course to play?

A: I normally play at Bunsay Downs near Maldon, but happy to play anywhere within easy reach of home.

What’s your favourite club in your bag and why?

A: Has to be a toss up between my 3 Hybrid and my 5 iron. When I hit them right, which isn’t very often, it flies (the ball, not the club).

What is the latest piece of golf equipment you bought?

A: I bought a complete new set last September, and added a Wilson Staff Lob wedge to the bag. Haven’t used it much, but it’s there if I need it to get out of yet another tight spot.

Who is your golfing hero?

A: Sorry, they all are. I just enjoy watching the game played by people that play better than me. Mind you, it’s nice to see them fluff a shot once in a while.

What is your best ever round and where?

A: Now don’t laugh but 100 is the best I have played, on a par 72 course (Bunsay Downs). Look I said don’t laugh.

What is the best shot you’ve ever hit? A: The way I play, I don’t get that many or remember them. A recent one was at Lullingstone Park. Hit a good tee shot (rare), then managed to mis-hit my second shot, but ended up 6 feet from the pin, to sink for a birdie (another rare event).

What is the worst shot you’ve ever hit? (Only 1 of them please)

A: About 99.9% of all shots. Managed to hit 3 different trees on the same hole, with the ball landing 40 yards behind me with the last shot. If there is a twig between me and the hole, I’ll hit the twig every time.

What are you targets for next Year?

A: How many am I allowed. To play better golf, play more golf, and hopefully lower my scores. Also to stop getting so cross with myself when it all goes wrong (about 99.9% of the time).

What sport would/do you prefer to play other than golf?

A: Used to play a lot of sport in my very younger days, but they are long gone. Play the occasional frame of snooker or Pool with my sons. Other than that, it’s just golf, golf and more golf. I’ll get there one day and play a decent round. I like watching sport on TV as well, mainly Golf, Cricket and Motor Racing (Cars and Bikes), though prefer Saloon Cars to Formula 1.

Which of the other HOGS players do you spend most of your time with off the course?

A: Jeff T and Darren G work on same level in 8CS as me, so normally speak to them about golf on a regular basis. At present also speaking to Al a lot due to support for new application his team are using.

Which other HOGS players do you most like teeing up along side?

A: It is probably a case of which HOGS player wants to play alongside me. Like a lot of others, I don’t mind who I play against as all of you are a good bunch (Stop pretending to throw up).

What’s the best piece of golfing advice you have ever had? A: Other than give up. Take your time, and keep your head still and down. Do I listen, do I heck.

Have you had any embarrassing incidents on the course?

A: As I haven’t been playing long, I have to say no, but I am sure others will remind me of plenty when they next see me. I do play the occasional brilliant Air shot.

What’s your favourite travel destination?

A: Not having a valid passport, I don’t travel abroad. Did a lot of caravanning in this country, and went to Hunstanton on a regular basis. Nowadays we generally go to a holiday cottage. Went to Jersey a couple of years ago for our 25th wedding anniversay, and would love to go back there before it’s too late.

What’s your favourite Film?

A: Don’t have a particular favourite, but anything that is sci-fi or uses CGI. Like the Star Wars films, as well as Alien, Predator, Harry Potter. Get the idea. Anything that takes me out of the real world.

Who are your favourite actor and actress?

A: Like my golfing heros, I don’t have a particular one that I could say was my favourite.

What car do you drive?

A: An 03 plate Ford Mondeo Graphite. It’s comfortable, can take 3 sets of clubs, overnight bags etc and still leave you with room to stretch out.

What football team do you follow/support?

A: When I was very young, back when the universe was first born, I supported West Ham, then Chelsea. In the mid 70’s, I started supporting Tottenham, and have done ever since. I have been doing my Family Tree, and found out that 2 relations played for them in the 1940’s. What is your favourite band or singer?

A: Sorry, the new stuff leaves me cold (Sorry Dave D & Ian M). My wife says I still hold a light for Sheena Easton, but generally I enjoy most music from the 70’s and 80’s. I do like listening to instrumental music (No, not brass bands), as you can have it on in the background, and not have to concentrate on the words. The wife hates it when I work from home and have the music on, because all she can hear is me either tapping away, clicking my fingers or whistling along to the tune that’s on.

What is your favourite song?

A: Don’t have a favourite. One week I’ll have one tune/song going around in my head, the next something else.

What is your favourite book?

A: Not a great book fan, but should read more. Started reading the ‘Wheel of Time’ series by Robert Jordan (No relation), but can also pick up things like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

Who would you most like to meet?

A: I would have loved the chance to talk to both my Grandads. Doing the Family tree has left me with a lot of questions I would have liked to have asked them. As far as famous people are concerned, any of the NASA astronauts.
