Mechanical Mixture- A mixture in which two or more parts can be seen with the unaided eye. Example. Salad Compound- consisting of two or more substances or ingredients or elements or parts; "soap is a compound substance"; "housetop is a compound word"; "a blackberry is a compound fruit"

Filtration- A way to separate a mixture by holding back the larger pieces.

Magnetism- The force exerted by a magnetic field.

Chromatography- a process used for separating mixtures by virtue of differences in absorbency

Settling- Means undissolved matter will eventually settle on the bottom.

Sifting- Separting larger solids from larger by using a screen.

Concentrated- Describes a solution containing relatively more dissolved solute compared with another solution. Example: Strong Juice is more concentrated that weak juice- Dilute. Matter- Anything that has mass and occupies space Filtrate- The material that passes through a filter. Ex. In coffee you drink the filtrate.

Residue- The material that is caught in a filter. Ex. In coffee the residue is the coffee grounds.

Filter- A device used to separate parts of a mechanical mixture by holding back the larger pieces of one or more of the substances comprising the mixture.

WHMIS- The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada's national hazard communication standard. The key elements of the system are cautionary labelling of containers of WHMIS "controlled products", the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and worker education and training programs.

Warning- Signs put on containers to let the consumers know of potential hazards.

Diffusion-The gradual mixing of subatances caused by the random movement of particles. Warning Symbols
