MEETING MINUTES

Chairperson: Kristine Schroeder Secretary/ Minutes: Cindy Hill Date/Time: Tuesday, February 17, 2016, 6:00pm Location: Grellinger Hall

The purpose will be to welcome people that might be interested, to find a chair, vice-chair, and secretary, and to find a regular meeting time.  About 10 people attended a bereavement training today – this is a new committee. Standing Faith Formation and Youth – Kris Schroeder Committees  A new first grader was registered bringing the total of students to 227.  Our theme of “Walking in the Foot Steps of Christ” is purposely leading the youth of Christian Formation to an even bigger meaning this Lenten season. This month the K4-5th grade will be focusing their learning on different aspects of Lent: why 40 days long, honoring our commitment(s) like Jesus did, how merciful God is, etc. 3rd-12th grade will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the Lenten season.  We are also kicking off our open invitation to our two mission trips opportunities this summer. 7th and 8th graders are invited to be part Waukesha county mission trip that includes 6 different parishes. This mission trip will take place July 11-13. 9th-12th graders are invited to be part of the Catholic Heart Work camp in Detroit Lakes, MN. This mission trip will take place July 18-24. See the parish website and the Christian Formation link for further details.  Middle School just completed their session of 3 topics: 1) Why does God allow humans to suffer? 2) Choices, and 3) Impossible being Possible. Bible passages, video and movies were used to cover these topics.  This coming Sunday we will have a reconciliation service.  March 6th we will be having a person from the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center come talk to youth. We plan on completing a craft for him to take back with him.  High school students talked about the movie Ten Commandments. They will be participating in the Reconciliation service this Sunday. On March 6th, they will have a speaker. Beth will be adding the training of the AED as suggested.

Finance – Bob Rohde/ Tyler Feldkamp  The interest (no principle) for the line of credit is being paid at this time.  The Scrip program will be amended so that guidelines are followed. There are only 2 options in which proceeds can be used: 1) payment for tuition-specific student, or 2) general school fund.  The stock that the Christian Women holds is underperforming – nothing will be done at this time.  A 403B retirement plan is being investigated.  The cemetery, personnel, and buildings and grounds subcommittees fall under Finance. Volunteers will be needed for each.

Human Concerns – Steve Szocs/ Donna Jensen  See discussion under Strategic Plan Timeline Pastoral Council Meeting February 17, 2016 Page 3 Next Steps & Item Discussion Responsible Party Prayer and Worship – Kathy Korn  The next meeting will be held on Sunday – Kathy will share the discussions on the book, Rebuilt.  The evening bible study that Claire Patch will be heading has been postponed for Lent and for the scripture study led by Father.  Review of the liturgical sign-up sheets and rehearsal are continuing to identify process improvements.  Volunteers are being sought to take care of mass details (candles, linens, wine, etc).  Nigel has been providing lessons on liturgy in the bulleting – this is a 10 week series.  Recognition was made to those who have made donations for the new choir robes and linens.

School –Cindy Hill  A formal recommendation was made to remove the two-tier tuition. The purpose of the recommendation was to reach out to all who were looking for a Catholic education. A survey of 35 schools indicated that this is no longer being practiced or will soon be eliminated. The recommendation was approved by the council.  Catholic School’s week brought in 10 new families (11 prospective students) that toured the school. Two more families from the Friday playgroup have shown interest. Photos of the week’s events are on the school Facebook page.  Choice applications will be accepted through April 20. There will be an information night on March 15 for questions and assistance to complete the online application.  The Father/Daughter dance had 75 participants – it was a positive event with the parish.  A discussion regarding signage for the school on the Capitol Drive campus was had. It is hoped that something can be put up to inform anyone passing by that the school is in the village since many still go to church looking for the school.  Cheryl Schoenhaar has volunteered to start an alumni database to start social events and launch an alumni fund.  Repairs for a heat exchanger in the Alberte Center cost $2,000 and will come out of the school budget.

Stewardship- Frank Paulus  Nothing to report.

New Business On March 10th, a seminar will be held at the Cousin’s Center – Beyond Donut Sunday; Becoming a Truly Welcoming Parish Community. Donna, Kris and Mic will be attending.

Pastor Pastor Florin Docea has been inquiring about renting St. Mary’s Church for worship. Father has provided a tour Invite Pastor Comments and has discussed the possibility. Sunday morning on March 13th has already been approved. Further discussions Docea to a PC will need to take place before a more formal and ongoing agreement can be made. It was suggested that Pastor meeting. Add Docea be invited to the Pastoral Council for introduction and further discussions. To improve parish communications, Queen of Apostles has been chosen to pilot a “parish app” that the Archdiocese Pastoral Council Meeting February 17, 2016 Page 4 Next Steps & Item Discussion Responsible Party is creating.

The Catholic Stewardship Appeal kickoff has begun – the goal is $44,000. It was suggested that progress toward the goal is added in the bulletin.

Chris Jackson and John Schuller will be attending an all day meeting in May that will cover the Choice program.

The first scripture study had over 30 people attend.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (starts in May every 8am Sunday mass).
