REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION MCINTOSH SCHOOL DISTRICT Wednesday, October 9, 2013 @ 7:00pm MT

Board President, Chris Bailey, called the meeting of the Board of Education for the McIntosh School District #15-1, McIntosh, South Dakota to order with the following members present: Chris Bailey, Marcia Schell, William Chase, and Robert Schuh. Absent John Powell, Jr. Also present: Superintendent –Dick Schaffan, Principal- Carole Schaffan, Business Manager-Kathy Sieck-Chase, Athletic Director- Heather Katus, Heather Beck, and Terrin Courtney.

All motions carried unanimously unless otherwise stated.

President Bailey asked for additions to the agenda. The following additions were made: 12c) Parent/Teacher Conferences 12d) February 2014 Board Meeting

Action #13-14-48 Motion by William Chase, second by Robert Schuh, to approve the agenda with the above additions.

Action # 13-14-49 Motion by Robert Schuh to approve minutes and financial statements from September, 2013, second by Marcia Schell.

Action #13-14-50 Motion by Chris Bailey, second by William Chase, to withdrawal motion 12-13-40 to surplus the 2000 Ford Excursion. The Excursion is being used to transport students.

Elementary Update-Carole Schaffan. Discussion held on Common Core - fact vs. myth. October 15, SD 1st Lady, Linda Daugaard, will be at McIntosh School to read to the 3rd. 4th, and 5th grade students and host a book exchange. Carole Schaffan will be attending System Change Conference; October 16-18, 2013 in Chamberlain, SD. Common Core Summit team was in Rapid City for teacher effectiveness training. Red Ribbon week will be October 23-31. MR EARL kick-off will be November 1, 2013. The Hearing Van will be here November 5, 2013 and Delta Dental will be at the McIntosh School November 11-15, 2013.

Athletic Director Report- Heather Katus. Girls Maroon basketball uniforms have arrived. District Volleyball Tourney will be at McIntosh, three games on November 5th starting @ 4pm and Championship game November 7th @ 7 pm. Regional Cross Country meet in Gettysburg, SD on October 16, 2013. First Round of football play offs will be October 29, 2013. No assistant coaches have applied for girls and boys basketball. Discussion held on compensating Assistant Football Coach for time spent driving student players to and from Lemmon. High School Report-Terrin Courtney. Homecoming was a great success, considering there was a blizzard on Friday, October 4, 2013. The staff Christmas party will be Saturday, December 7, 2013 @ McIntosh Community Center.

NWAS report given by Robert Schuh. Enrollment for the mobile units is down slightly, with exception of Medical Terminology and Health Careers. All teachers employed by NW Area now have badges to wear. The advisory committee will continue work on a 5 year plan.

Action #13-14-51 Motion by Robert Schuh, second by William Chase to approve bills and payroll for October 2013.

Action #13-14-52 Motion by Robert Schuh, second by Chris Bailey, to transfer $30,000.00 from Impact Aid to Food Service for expenses.

Kathy Sieck Chase informed the Board about the upcoming School Law Seminars.

Superintendent Report-Dick Schaffan. Superintendent presented three home school applications and open enrollment applications. Discussion held on Impact Aid funding and Federal Government shut down. Parent Teacher conferences dates have been changed due to athletic events. Conferences will be October 28 and October 30, 2013 from 3pm-6pm. The February 2014 School Board meeting will be Monday, February 10, 2014.

Action #13-14-52 Motion by Robert Schuh, second by William Chase, to approve the open enrollment.

Action #13-14-53 Motion by Robert Schuh, second by Marcia Schell, to enter into executive session per SDCL 1-25-2 at 8:35 pm MT

Declared out of executive at 9:10 pm MT

Action #13-14-54 Motion by Chris Bailey, second by William Chase, to have Jess Jung hire one of the applicants for bus driver.

President Bailey adjourned the meeting at 9:12 pm MT.
