3Rd Annual Blue Door Derby

3rd Annual Blue Door Derby

Welcome! We are excited to have you join the Boys & Girls Club of Watertown as we host our 3rd annual Blue Door Derby Camel Race event. We know that with your support and the proper training and care of your camel, it will be an entertaining event for all who attend!

Because of you, the Boys & Girls Club of Watertown is able “to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.”

To ensure your camel and team are in tip-top shape for the derby, we have laid out some guidelines to assist in your preparation. Camel Care and Training

The keys for a successful race day:

1. Named with a name fitting to your organization: We encourage you to get your Employees and/or Customers involved. Have a contest amongst them to come up with a terrific name for your camel, fitting to your organization.

2. Dressed in the latest fashions: The Blue Door Derby is no ordinary camel race. We encourage you to dress your camel in something that encompasses your organization or something completely fun and goofy. a. Your Camel needs to be appropriately attired for the Beauty Contest (Best-dressed) that will take place on the evening of the Camel Race. Your Camel will be a public representative of you, your organization or business. b. The winner will be awarded a magnificent trophy to display at your home or place of business. c. Be creative – competition will be fierce!

3. Displayed so that the Public can admire them: Camels need to be put out to pasture as soon as possible so that they can properly feed on the admiration of the Public. Be proud supporters and display your Camel prominently at your business to show your commitment to the children served by the Boys & Girls Club.

4. Trained to compete in the Camel Race Night a. To win the Best-Dressed Contest, your Camel needs to be trained to solicit votes from the people attending the Camel Race Night Event. Votes are awarded based on one vote for every dollar put in your Camels assigned “Ballot Box”. We certainly encourage you and your guests to stuff the ballot box. You may collect “vote money” before the event from friends, family, co-workers, and customers. b. Please encourage employees, friends and neighbors to be at the races to cheer your Camel to victory. We’ve found that a large cheering (and betting) section can make a difference in the motivation of your Camel. In addition to sponsorship opportunities, price of admission is $25.00 per person. To reserve your seat, please contact Kelly Jaderborg at the Boys & Girls Club of Watertown at 886-6666.

5. Participate in the Camel Race Night Event

a. The first annual BGC Blue Door Derby Camel Races will be held Friday, Friday, March 24th at the Codington County Extension Complex. The social and dinner will begin at 5:30pm with the races beginning at 6:30pm.

b. On race day your Camel needs to be at the Race stables (Extension Complex) before 3pm on Friday, March 24th. Please plan to take your camel home with you. FAQ’s

How does the race work?

Camels will move a space along the racetrack when their assigned number is called out as a result of a throw of two really large dice. Every time your Camels number is called out, they get to move a space. First Camel to move 10 spaces wins the Race. Attendees are allowed to bet on each heat using their camel bucks.

How will this year be different from the past?

This year we will not have a formal dinner time. Instead we will have “race-track” food like burgers & hot dogs which you can eat your leisure. Because of this change, we hope to have more races, which means your camel will have more chances to win! We will also be including perks in the ticket price such as 1 free betting slip and drink ticket along with a chance to go in the money booth and your meal. We will still have the money booth with other on-the-spot games and prizes available.

How do I reserve a sponsorship for this event?

To reserve your sponsorship for the event, simply stop into the Boys & Girls Club of Watertown at 1000 3rd Ave NE, give us a call at 886-6666, email Kelly Jaderborg at [email protected], or fill out the attached form and mail it back to the Boys & Girls Club at PO Box 833; Watertown SD 57201

What else can we expect on race night?

During the social portion and in-between camel races we will be offering raffle opportunities to win prizes and money booth to help you win more money to place on your favorite camel.
