Mask Art Project – Lord of the Flies NAME:______DATE:______
“... the mask was a thing on its own, behind which Jack hid, liberated from shame and self-consciousness.”
Directions: Choose a character from Lord of the Flies and create a mask that represents either his shame/self-consciousness or his liberation from it (or possibly—both). If you choose Jack, do NOT simply recreate the mask that he makes for himself in the novel. Option 1: Use unlined paper. Use colored inks, pencils, paints, or markers. Be original and neat. You may use the template provided or create a shape of your own, but the mask must be no larger than 8 ½” x 11”. Mount the mask on construction paper. Option 2: Create a three-dimensional mask using your own materials. **The mask must be no larger than 8 ½” x 11”. Creating a three-dimensional mask will not earn extra points. I am offering this option for those who really, really want to create a 3D mask; however, I honestly prefer Option 1 for the ease of portability and display. Use the back of this paper to plan your mask.
