The Cinematic Eye “Now more than ever we need to talk to each other, to listen to each other and understand how we see the world, and cinema is the best medium for doing this.” [Martin Scorsese]

“The Cinematic Eye” is a website concentrated on the art of making cinema and movies.

Moreover, it focuses on the directors’ representation and recreation of reality and it reflects on the importance of the seventh art through famous quotes taken from the best movies of all time. Thus, I decided to put on the homepage of the website four screenshots belonging to different kind of movies: The Devil wears Prada, Public Enemy, Roman Holiday and La Grande Bellezza.

In this way, the homepage gives an overview of the variety of contents offered by the website. The webpages offered are visible on the menu and the design chosen for the structure has a fixed width of 1024 pixel through all the different pages, and heights fixed at different numbers depending on the webpage quantity of contents.

Then, I decided to use gifs because my website is focused on what cinema conveys and its meanings through images. Above that, the design is simple and direct thanks to the menu bar placed at the top of every webpage. The menu is simply structured through the usage of two colors and rectangular boxes. (all of the same dimensions) It permits the viewer to easily know what the content of each page is. The page called “Reviews” has a three columns structure, as the

“Multimedia” webpage filled with carefully chosen images. Also, the “Quotes” webpage is made of three columns and white titles to let the viewer enjoy more the reading. On the other hand, the

“About” webpage is based on two columns as the Homepage. These structures are possible thanks to the usage of numerous

which permit to float elements to the right as well.

As a matter of fact, the presentation of my information is clear and easy understandable. The webpages just needs to be a little scrolled down and there is no hidden information to the viewers. It is also easy to look for specific information and ask for them through the form inserted inside the “About” page. Additionally, the text is broken into reasonable quantities to look easy on the eye and it helps the reading because written with very contrasting colors. (Pink variants and Black)

The margins between the header, the columns and footer are used to clarify organization.

Again, the main colors are black and pink to give a feminine tone to the website, and to avoid the classic black and white tone. Also, the font is meant to convey a serious approach on the topic because the content written aims to reflect on the perspectives which movies give to reality.

For these reasons, I believe the website design is unified and smooth; but also, because the menu, the header and other elements are in the same position on each webpage, so that the viewer cannot get lost. Moreover, the graphics, colors and structure are similar and help the viewer during transitions. Nonetheless, through the two columns structure for the homepage with a main menu dedicated to reviews, multimedia files and quotations by famous actors and cinema lovers; the users are going to enjoy the website, especially if they love cinema. And when the viewers need information they can ask for them or give some advice and contribute. Lastly, the website concentrates on still and interactive images to catch the viewers’ eyes, understand the cinema’s world, and its importance. It is dedicate to movies because they are very popular and appreciated. They often leave messages to influence and affect the choices of the public, especially the younger one, as a form of communication that is based not so much on words as on facts expressed with a powerful impact on the people and their subconscious.

**Due to time issues, I validated just the Homepage. The errors corrected on the Homepage are the same of the other webpages, so I perfectly understood what I need to correct for my future use of

HTML 5.
