To request that principals submit contact information on the 2017-2018 Science Department Chairperson, Science Liaison, and Leaders/Coach contact information.
The Department of Science is requesting that principals designate a Science Department Chairperson, Science Liaison, or Science Coach/Leader, if applicable, and provide that individual’s contact information. The Science Department Chairperson and/or the Science Liaison/Coach will participate in District science professional learning activities, guide the science professional learning communities at the school site, inform teachers of up-to-date science information, and provide support to school-site curriculum leaders and teachers. The Science Chairperson/Liaison/Coach should be a Grade 5, Grade 8 or Biology teacher since the objective of monthly meetings will focus on best practices and instructional resources leading to mastery of the Grade 5, Grade 8 and Biology curriculum and subsequent successful performance on the Statewide Science Assessment and Biology EOC. Principals and Assistant Principals interested in adding their names to the distribution lists will receive the same emails sent to these selected individuals. Please complete the Contact Information Form for the appropriate level(s) identifying the Science Department Chairperson, Science Liaison/Coach, and Curriculum Administrator (optional) at the following links. Please note that combination schools (K-8 centers, 6-12, K- 12, etc.) should submit information for each level at the school: o Elementary School: http://science.dadeschools.net/esc.asp o Middle School: http://science.dadeschools.net/msc.asp o High School: http://science.dadeschools.net/hsc.asp Submission timeframe: Thursday, August 24, 2017 – Thursday, September 7, 2017. In light of the District STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) initiative and subsequent media coverage on the importance of showcasing student investigations at venues like the Miami-Dade STEAM Expo, it is imperative that schools submit contact information within the timeframe, since the first meeting is scheduled for the second week of September 2017.
