Overview: We have (or will be) briefly discussed the characteristics of culture and civilization. It is now time to apply this knowledge into a creative exercise.

Rubric: This is a creative assignment. You will be graded on your effort, creativity and ability to effectively integrate course content into visual. 100- Exceeded expectations. Visual contained identifiable or explainable elements of culture. 80- Followed criteria- met expectations 60- Did not follow all criteria. You created a visual but it is debatable how it relates to culture. Visual cues lacking. 40- Created a visual but does not relate to culture and is visually sloppy. 0- Did not complete *This assignment is designed for you to show me what you are capable of. I am looking for exemplarity work that can be displayed.

- Display your culture Create a visual representation of your own culture (everything that makes you,..well you! This may take the form of painting /mural /mosaic /drawing/collage/CAD. You must include at least 5 different areas of your life. Make an effort to creatively display these interesting facets of who you are.

If time allows, you will briefly present your project.

Presentation should be larger than a standard piece of paper and no larger than 3ft by 3ft. Your projects will be displayed around the room.

Task: Part 1- Short Essay- Create your own Civilization. Please create your own civilization. You must come up with a name, place, and characteristics. You may use fictional or real locations. Of the 5 characteristics of civilization, you must choose 3, and create your own specific characteristic. Please describe how these characteristics impact and define your society and civilization. Your essay should follow the following format. *Between 1 and 2 pages typed (double spaced 12 font) *Appropriate introduction/conclusion.

Rubric: This is a creative assignment. You will be graded on your effort, creativity and ability to effectively integrate course content into your story. 100- Exceeded expectations for the assignment. Essay had proper flow and order. 80- Answered all questions in a basic way. Essays lacked creativity, flow, or explanation. 60-Showed little effort or regard for the expectations in this assignment. You did not complete all the tasks in this assignment. 40- Did not follow essay format. You failed to address the characteristics of the civilization. 0- Did not complete.

Part II- Display your culture Option 1- Create a visual/auditory representation of your created civilization. This may take the form of painting /mural /mosaic /drawing /song /dance. You must include a 1 paragraph explanation of how your creation reflects your civilizations culture. Option II- Create a visual/auditory representation of your personal/family culture. Same format applies.
