A Day in the Life of...

Instructions: For this project, students will be assigned a Roman in a particular station of life. Students will have the option of working alone or in pairs (no more than 2 students per group). The student(s) will then be required to research using scholarly sources addressed in class to draft a first-person narrative detailing an average day in the life of the individual chosen. Each student is responsible for researching his or her individual and each student is responsible for producing a narrative. Presentations will be given March 28th. March 27th, I will pass around a hat with the stations of individuals (i.e. slave, Senator, Emperor, plebeian, ect.). Choose ONE and pass the hat to the person next to you. Do not show who you have. Groups, please see #2.

1.) March 27th, I will be giving a short refresher on what constitutes a scholarly source and will give examples of what I expect. You should include AT LEAST 3 scholarly sources. The sources that are used in this narrative should be listed on a separate sheet of paper stapled to your work and cited in APA format. For those who have never used APA, I will be writing examples on the board. Make sure to write them down! Points will be deducted if your citations are not in APA.

2.) Those of you who are working in pairs, see me separately. I will be assigning pairs into specific categories of Roman citizens.

3.) When drafting your narrative, you may be as creative as you like. There are a few key points I would like added to your work:

a.) Where do you live? What Roman city or province have you chosen? b.) DO NOT list your profession, but do add a few points detailing professional responsibilities (for example, if you are a doctor make sure to include that it is your responsibility to work with sick people, that you are interested in how the human body works, ect. Give some hints as to what you are, but do not come out and say it. Don't worry if your hints are "bad" or give too much away. You are not trying to trick other students, but help them guess who you are by telling them what you do). c.) Who do you spend the majority of your time around?

4.) Type your work, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font.

5.) When we present as a class, you may have the option of using technology to present (i.e. do you want to use an avatar? Would you like to make a simple Prezi?). For those of you interested in doing so, please see me before class ends on March 27th. If you do not let me know, I cannot help you. All should turn in a hard copy.

6.) March 28th, come dressed for your presentation as the individual that you chose. We will have food, music, and games!
