Reports To: Dispatcher and Thrift Store Director

Job Summary:

The Truck Driver works under the direct supervision of the Dispatcher and the Thrift Store Director. This individual must be a born-again Christian of proven testimony and evidence of spiritual growth including: leadership, discipleship, maturity, discernment, patience, objectivity, and stewardship effectiveness. This person must be able to share his or her testimony with program clients. As a professional motorist, duties include some light mechanical work, some paperwork, a lot of communication, and, of course, driving the truck. Safety to the truck driver and other motorists is of utmost importance. In order to save time and fuel, a truck driver must follow a strict schedule which requires him/her to be at certain pickup and drop-off points on time. Besides extensive traveling from one destination to another, a truck driver will spend a lot of time packing and unpacking various goods such as, furniture, electronics, clothing and other products that must be delivered to a specific location. A truck driver is responsible for all goods transported.

Education and/or Experience:

 Minimum High School Diploma  At least 2 years’ experience as a Truck Driver  Clean valid Florida Driver License Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervisory responsibilities include the supervision of the Driver Assistant and client helpers, in accordance with Jericho’s policies and procedures, while maintaining appropriate boundaries. This may include, orienting and training, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 Knowledge of standard radio and telephone communications receiving and transmitting equipment.  Detailed knowledge of roads of Hernando and Pasco counties.  Ability to interpret and give both verbal and written instructions.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to speak clearly and concisely over the radio and telephone.  Ability to take and transmit clear and complete direction and information.  Ability to make sound decisions using all available information.  Skill to accomplish tasks in a controlled, effective manner while working under stress.  Ability to read maps.  Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and customers; excellent customer service.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to remain calm, think clearly, quickly assess and evaluate situations, organize thoughts and respond quickly in emergency and stressful situations.  Ability to effectively coordinate the driving function, trucks and personnel, and prepare work schedules for all shifts and emergency situations.  Ability to focus while driving; no texting or telephone calls. All telephone calls should be made when at each scheduled stop. In the case of an emergency, driver will be expected to pull over and stop to use the telephone or should get his/her assistant to make the call.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive, lift, stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, reach with hands and arms, and to speak and listen. There will be long periods of driving. The driver will be expected to communicate with the Dispatcher by telephone before leaving on his/her routes, and at each stop. This position will be required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to operate a motorized vehicle; a valid Florida driver license is a necessity.

 Administer and adhere to policy manuals, memos and procedures related to this job and remain updated on updates and changes or memos related to policy, maintaining correct procedures in your work.  Maintain excellent customer service at all times; ask customers to reschedule with Dispatcher for pick-up of large unlisted items.  If additional items picked up and unable to complete day’s schedule, inform Dispatcher immediately and customer should be contacted immediately to reschedule.  Knowledge of all Jericho Road Ministries’ services, and stay updated.  Follows policy of dropping full trucks at store location, swaps keys with store manager and takes empty truck off store lot.  Pick-up and delivery of donations and sold merchandise. Delivery collected from Thrift Store according to color code on merchandise to be delivered: o Delivery slip only means only that item o Delivery slip and green tag means there is more than one item in that delivery; check for the number of items on green tag, collect them all before leaving the store. o Orange tag means customer will pick up  Communicate with Dispatcher before leaving on routes and at each stop.  Transport unneeded items to the landfill or recycler.  Maps route daily in collaboration with the Dispatcher, before going out on the road.  Manage the volunteer or client helper on a route  Manage the condition of donations for pickup, excluding items on the “Do Not Take” list.  Does not unload merchandise from trucks  Wears appropriate body harness when on the job  Determine salability of items to be picked up.  Distribute paperwork according to procedures for pickups and deliveries. Give customer receipt for merchandise received.  Maintain operation of truck and report problems to Thrift Store Director.  Maintain proper paperwork in the vehicle at all times; blank Incident Reports, Insurance Reports, in the event of an accident.  Document, by way of an Incident Report, within 24 hours, any accidents which may occur during the course of your shift. Dispatcher and Thrift Store Director should be informed immediately.  Keep truck full of fuel; check oil and fluids daily.  Keep truck cab clean and free of debris and wash truck on a weekly basis.  Keep cargo area swept and orderly on a daily basis.  Complete mileage log on truck daily.  Assist Store Manager when not driving.  Monitor and direct volunteers and Work Therapy Clients assisting in these tasks.  Evaluate assistant on a timely basis o Employed assistant: According to scheduled evaluation determined by Stewardship Department.  Work Therapy Client: According to Shelter Policy Manual – monthly at the end of the month.  Ensure excellent customer service standards are established and maintained PART TIME TRUCK DRIVER (24 TO 30 HOURS; MAY LEAD TO FULL TIME)
