WEEKLY LESSON PLANS Kerry Matthews/CHES Week of 8/9 Subject- Social Studies Period(s) – 3x a day Monday Instructional Every Monday is an introduction using power point, flashcards, and study guides. Strategy This week’s topic is… Objective: 50 States and Mapping Skills Materials Power Point, Lyrics to “50 Nifty United States” song Homework Study song each night (Monday – Thursday). Test Friday. Tuesday Instructional Students rotate through 6 centers throughout the week. They complete 2 centers on Tuesday, 2 more Strategy on Wednesday, and the last 2 on Thursday. Center #1- Reading center - 5 books from library about US Regions Center #2- Interactive websites at Promethean board Materials http://www.kidsgeo.com/geography-games/united-states-america-map-game.php Wednesda y Instructional Students rotate through 6 centers throughout the week. They complete 2 centers on Tuesday, 2 more Strategy on Wednesday, and the last 2 on Thursday. Center #3- USA Puzzles (4) and timer – Or use 2 puzzles and work in teams Center #4- Longitude and latitude art activity (see video on watchknowlearn) Materials Puzzles, paper, crayons Thursday Instructional Students rotate through 6 centers throughout the week. They complete 2 centers on Tuesday, 2 more Strategy on Wednesday, and the last 2 on Thursday. Center #5- Latitude and Longitude worksheet (application) Center #6- Video at back computer (see list below) Materials Friday Instructional “Test and Rest” day. Students will take a 20 question, multiple choice test. On Strategy average, tests take about 30 minutes. Students then watch a TOPIC-RELATED video after the test. (Friday schedules are shorter due to R.I.T.)
