Virgil Link Project 2004
Procedure: After finding a link on the Web or where ever, you must then use whatever you want of that link to create a word document which you will then send to me. Here is what you need to do:
1. On the Public Drive within the Folder Virgil there is a file called “template.htm” - copy this to your G-Drive so you do not modify the template. Use this as the basis for your web page. You will need to open this in word, double clicking it will open it in internet explorer and changes can not be made.
2. Save your file as “the word that it is linked to in the text followed by the line number” .htm
3. Type in all critical information under picture as noted in template. (artist & dates, what museum and short description) It should be clear in your description why the link is important to the text.
4. At the very bottom of the page, you must put 3 text hyperlinks : 1) Back to virgil text 2) Back to Virgil Link Homepage 3) Back to Mr. Kent’s Homepage. Please use the Template so they all look and act the same.
5. When you are done there will be two components to your webpage if you have inserted pictures. One is the actual .htm file you just created. Second is a folder, that the computer will create, in the same location with a name of “the file name you just created_ Files.” That folder must travel with your .htm file
6. Copy the File and Folder to the correct location in the public drive. Within the Virgil Folder, within the correct Book Folder, within the correct link type folder.
7. Print out 1 copy (to be handed in to me).
There are a few examples already completed in the folders. One example is done for Ligant Line 217 (Book 2) with files in the correct places on the public drive also located on the web at: http://www.ea1785.org/htm/Units/Upper/classics/Virgil/Booktwo/ArtisticLinks/ligant217. htm
Next you must create the link from the text to your page: Located on the public drive in the Virgil folder within the BookTwo folder there is a file called:
TextBk02.htm
Open this in word by opening word first and then go to open and find the file. If you do not do this it will open in Internet Explorer and you will not be able to make changes.
1. Once open find the word on the correct line your webpage will be linked to 2. Highlight the word and From the insert menu choose Hyperlink 3. You will be linking where you placed the file on the public drive within the Booktwo folder. An example is: ArtisticLinks/ligant217.htm it is within the ArtisticLinks folder and then it is the name of the file you created. 4. Highlight the link you just created and go to the insert menu and choose Bookmark 5. At the top type in your word as it appears in the document followed by the line it appears on, just like your file name. Make sure location is checked, not name, and then click on add. 6. Save the file

By the degree to which you have fulfilled the checklist of requirements: ie. the list of different types of links that you have must find.
