 Volunteer at the Museum of Natural Science (2 years as the docent in the Cockrell Butterfly Center).  Led Evergreen Chinese School students in the Annual Thanksgiving Parade in Downtown Houston (1983-85).  VIPS (Volunteer in the Public Schools) in HISD.  Speaker at J.C. Sanderson Elementary School (Importance of Education).  Speaker (3 years) at the Expanding Your Horizon Conference (for girls age 9 through 14) on Careers in Engineering for Women.  Guest lecturer in Child Development class at Central (Childhood in an Asian Society).  As a NSF grant review panel member (2 years).  Taught Upward Bound class for 4 weeks at HCC-Central (1998) in physics and chemistry.  Speaker to various organizations on topics related to women from attending the World Women Conference held in Beijing (1995): Federation of Houston Professional Women, SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Education Training and Research), AWA.  Presentation of Texas Scholar to Jackson Middle School (2002).  Developed the first project of faculty/students exchange program between HCCS and Heilongjiang University of China (1997).

Workshops Sponsored and Conference Chaired:

 Science Forum (1992): Invited Rice Professor Richard Smally (who discovered Bucky Ball and received Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996), UH Professor John Linhard (radio speaker on Engines of Ingenuity) and HCC Faculty to HCC-Central with HCCS students participated.  2YC3 regional meeting to area community college and high school chemistry instructors.  HCCS Faculty Conference (1996, 97) in Math/Science session  Careers in Science and Engineering Workshop for HCCS students - -invited UH physics and chemistry professor and Museum of Natural Science Director of Astronomy, and EPA director to HCC.  Instructional Technology in the Classroom (1995): topics covered included virtual lab, computer-assisted-data- acquisition, distance education etc.  Diversity as a Catalyst Workshop: Using resources derived from cultural and historical diversity to instruct chemistry - - 4 days at HCC-SE (2001).  Committees served: Compensation, Curriculum, core curriculum, IE, Title V Advisory and mini-grant evaluation, International Initiative, Discover U, Graduates and Completers, Developmental Education, Dual Credit.  Special projects: i. Created Partnership with Good Year Rubber Company in the training of their employee to seek higher education and skills. ii. Designed the Science Lab aides’ formula to be used by all Colleges to support the laboratory operations (see the attached). iii. Math Project: A special project aiming at improving the math education at HCCS. Tasks include meeting with math faculty in the national meeting, evaluation of software, tracking success rates in developmental math instruction, documenting effectiveness of the extra lab hour instruction in the Intermediate Algebra, designing Algebra for Liberal Arts students and creation of “Algebra for Work Force”. Help Math Faculty in the IE process and TSI implementation. iv. Helped design SE College CIP (Capital Improvement Plan).
