The animals were mechanically ventilated with room air in the first 10 min of the protocol. The respiration was then continued from the gas-bottles containing artificial air with different percentages of O2 with or without 2.5% CH4. Group R1 (n=6) was ventilated with air containing 21% O2; group R2 (n=6) with 21% O2 + 2.5% CH4; group R3 (n=6) air containing

18.5% O2; group R4 (n=6) with 18.5% O2 + 2.5% CH4; group R5 (n=6) with air containing
