Success Criteria: YWBAT use a three-column chart to narrow down the meaning of vocabulary words.  Warm up: review this week’s vocabulary list. Do you have any background knowledge you can draw on to determine the meaning? o Discuss

 Comprehension questions  Author’s chair 9/21 - Goal: YWBAT draw inferences from the text. Success Criteria: YWBAT support your inferences with evidence from the text.  Warm up: re-read pages 26-31. Elliot says that once something is down on paper like in his drawings, it is “caught”. What does he mean by this? o Discuss o Evidence  Art therapy reading/activity  Begin chapter 4 o Vocabulary chart o Questioning  Author’s chair 9/22 - Goal: YWBAT use the questioning strategy to help you comprehend the text deeply. Success Criteria: YWBAT write questions on sticky notes and place them in the book.  Warm up: re-read the description of Abel Hoffman on page 44. What do you think “abstract expressionism” is?  Abstract expressionism write to learn  Finish chapter 4 o Vocabulary context clues o Questioning  Reading buddies 9/22 - Goal: YWBAT draw inferences from the text. Success Criteria: YWBAT support your inferences with evidence from the text.  Warm up: Re-read pages 48-50. In the beginning of chapter 4, Robert refers to his father as a “ghost”. He goes on to question why his grandmother doesn’t have any pictures of his father in the house. Why do you think that is? Week 2 spelling and vocabulary list: This week we will study vocabulary words in class and there will be a test on Friday. Students must know the spelling and meaning of each word. For use from 9/19 to 9/23
