FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Michael Nyqvist Joins Laurence Fishburne, Orlando Jones and David Harewood Landmark Nelson Mandela Miniseries Madiba, Directed by Kevin Hooks.

Johannesburg, South Africa. June 6, 2016 –Lance Samuels, President of Blue Ice Pictures, announced today that Michael Nyqvist (John Wick, Mission Impossible: 4, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy), has joined the cast of the landmark Nelson Mandela miniseries, Madiba. Directed by Kevin Hooks (Prison Break, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), starring Laurence Fishburne (Black-ish, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Matrix Trilogy) as the late South African hero, Orlando Jones (Drumline, Sleepy Hollow, The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea) as Oliver Tambo, president of the African National Congress and David Harewood (Homeland, The Night Manager, Supergirl) as Walter Sisulu, Secretary-General of the African National Congress and the organizational genius of ANC. The six-hour event series is based on two Mandela books, Conversations with Myself and Nelson Mandela by Himself.

Madiba is set to premiere on BET Networks in the U.S. in 2017 and is distributed worldwide by Dynamic Television.

Nyqvist stars as Dr H.F. Verwoerd, the "Architect of Apartheid” and Prime Minister of South Africa from 1958 until his assassination in 1966.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, educated at the School of Drama in Malmö, Nyqvist starred as the lead in the Academy Award-nominated Best Foreign Film, As it is in Heaven and as journalist Mikhael Blomkvist in the Millennium Trilogy. He is the recipient of distinguished awards including Best Male Actor at the Guldbagge, the Swedish Oscars, in 2002. He will next be seen opposite Pierce Brosnan in the hacker thriller I.T., directed by John Moore.

Lance Samuels, President of Blue Ice Pictures, says, “The addition of Michael Nyqvist to our accomplished cast adds a further global appeal to a very global story. Madiba is unique in that for the first time, this series explores Nelson Mandela’s side of the story, as well as the inner workings of the Apartheid government. And Michael, cast as the ill-fated Prime Minister H. F. Verwoerd, will bring that aspect of the story to light with his exceptional talent.”

Named after the Thembu clan to which Nelson Mandela belonged, Madiba tells the epic tale of Nelson Mandela’s heroic journey to bring racial equality and democracy to the people of South Africa.

Principal photography for Madiba began April 4, 2016 and will run to June 16, 2016 in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Robben Island, South Africa. The miniseries is being produced and financed by Toronto-based Blue Ice Pictures and also produced by South Africa’s Out of Africa Entertainment in association with UK’s Leftbank Pictures and Cinema Gypsy Productions. Blue Ice Pictures president Lance Samuels executive produces alongside Nelson Mandela's grandson, Kweku Mandela, of Out of Africa and Daniel Iron, Neil Tabatznik, Steven Silver, Andy Harries and Loretha Jones.

Madiba is written by Paul Webb (Selma), Jane Maggs (The Offering, To the Teeth) Janine Eser and Kathleen McGhee-Anderson (The Fosters, Lincoln Heights, Touched by an Angel, The Cosby Show)
