At the end of the novel, Ralph is weeping for “the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy” (Golding 202). When the boys find themselves stranded on a remote island, they quickly attempt to mimic a civilized society that reflects what they know and have grown up with.
