Indian Creek Dr.  Clarkston, GA 30021  404/297-9522 Ext. 1190  FAX# 404/298-3601 POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT POSITION: MATH TUTOR – STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER (PART-TIME) 1 POSITION PRIMARY LOCATION: DEKALB CAMPUS DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, the tutor will provide individual and small group tutoring sessions and provide tutorial support for students enrolled in Basic Math, Intermediate Algebra, Foundations of Mathematics, Algebraic Concepts, Geometry and Trigonometry, College Algebra, Pre-Calculus and Statistics. ESSENTIAL JOB Further, the tutor is responsible for encouraging students to develop a systemic approach RESPONSIBILITIES: to studying that will serve them in many courses; enroll and assist students with computerized learning systems in the Center; and integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the student's potential for academic progress. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.0 in mathematics or possess demonstrated ability and experience in the field; excellent communication skills; ability to be flexible in working conditions and schedules; open to training and skills development. Applicant may be required to obtain a faculty recommendation.

PREFERRED Bachelor's Degree in math (or closely related field) from a national or regionally QUALIFICATIONS: accredited college or university. Appropriate degree must reflect the requirements of the College’s accrediting agency. The successful candidate must also have completed at least 18 graduate semester hours (or equivalent quarter hours) in mathematics, and three (3) years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Ability and willingness to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, age levels and levels of academic preparation. Ability to quickly establish rapport and communication with students and instructors. Develop a good understanding and knowledge of college services, supports and resources. Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship. Perform other duties to support the daily operations of the tutoring program. Open to training and skills development.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary is $20.00 per hour. This is a part-time position working up to 19 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. Georgia Defined Contributions and taxes will be deducted.
