These People Are Entitled to Take up a Free Flu Vaccine Via Their GP

Flu Buddy Training – We Need YOU!!! Background For most people flu is an unpleasant illness with a recovery time of about a week. However, older people, children, pregnant women and those with an existing health condition are at risk from the more serious effects of flu. These people are entitled to take up a free flu vaccine via their GP What is Flu Buddy? A person known as a Flu Buddy who will wear a badge "Ask me about Flu" their role within your setting/service will be to raise awareness of the importance of flu vaccines and to sign post people to their GP, Pharmacy and/or other Flu providers this winter. A Flu Buddy will be a frontline worker who comes into contact with members of the public. What we are aiming to achieve Public Health England and Lancashire County Council have developed a programme aimed at increasing the uptake of the flu vaccine amongst some of the at risk groups such as:  Pregnant Women  People under the age of 65 in a clinical risk group  Healthy children aged 2 to 4 years  Any children with an underlying health condition  People with a learning disability  Carers i.e. people who are in receipt of a carer’s allowance, or those who are the main carer of an older or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill

Lots of the people who should be offered the flu jab will come into contact with a number of frontline services including: Libraries, Museums, Children's Centres and Day Services. We also want to target people who receive services in their own homes. We would like to have a Flu Buddy in as many settings as possible to help inform people about the flu vaccination programme. Training We will be running a number of workshops across the county.
