Philosophy HW 1: Philosophical Profile (50 points)

This assignment is asking you to critically reflect on some important philosophical questions and how they impact your life. Choose 3 out of 4 questions to complete for the assignment. For each series of questions, make sure to write a complete paragraph that fully explains each part of the section of questions. Because I am asking you to write subjectively, your grade will be based on three criteria:  How completely and thoroughly to answer each section of questions  How well you explain your thoughts in a coherent logical way  The level of effort your assignment reflects This assignment can be either handwritten or typed. It must be submitted in class on the day that it is due. Do NOT email the assignment 1) What does it mean to be good? How can you tell if a decision you made, a quality you possess, a relationship you have are good things? Do you consider yourself to be “good,” explain how you feel. 2) The question “What is the meaning of life?” has been one that philosophers have studied throughout human existence. At this point in time in your life, what would you say is your meaning? How much of your time, energy, and focus do you give to pursuing this meaning? Do you believe that this meaning or purpose is something that you choose for yourself, or that it is already there and something that you have to discover? 3) How do you define happiness? What makes you ultimately happy in your life? How do you know when you are happy? Is happiness something different from pleasure, why or why not? 4) Think about what it means to be you. Write about three defining characteristics that make you your own unique self. Why do you feel that three characteristics partially define who you are? Do you feel that a person’s identity is made completely of the qualities that they define them, or is a person more than just that? For example (hypothetically) if you were to be instantly cloned, would that clone be the same person as you?
