Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA) Community Fundraising Volunteer Application Process

Job Title: Community Fundraising Volunteer Reporting to: Community Fundraising Manager Length of Opportunity: 2-3 months to include May, 2-3 days per week. Salary: Unpaid (£5 lunch and reasonable travel expenses reimbursed) Based at: Angel Islington, North London

Background

CLAPA is a member organisation supporting people with cleft lip and palate and their families. Its main roles are:  Providing practical and emotional advice and support to parents, children and young people and adults with clefts  Providing information on all aspects of cleft lip and palate  Representing users of cleft services in research and consultation exercises  Coordinating a network of volunteers: branches and individuals to provide local support  Raising awareness of cleft lip and palate amongst the general public

CLAPA is a UK charity run by a small team based in London and a network of Regional Coordinators who look after our many dedicated volunteers. Our Awareness Week in May is a particularly busy time and we need you to assist us in raising as much awareness and funds as possible leading up to and during this important month.

The successful candidate will support the Community Fundraising Team and work on events like our CLAPA Sponsored Walks. The role will provide an excellent opportunity to develop skills in events and community fundraising within a small and friendly charity.

Much of the role will be looking after our dedicated supporters and learning everything there is to know about excellent donor care. There will also be the opportunity to learn about event planning and help out on some of our sponsor walks.

This is a voluntary position and is unpaid. CLAPA will reimburse lunch expenses to the value of £5 per day and reasonable travel expenses (within zones 1-6). CLAPA will also support the development of the successful candidate’s skills and abilities in their areas of interest as much as possible. References can be supplied on successful completion of the three month period. Main Roles 1. Providing excellent donor care to fundraisers 2. Accurate data entry of supporters details on to Salesforce database. 3. Ensuring there is a good supply of fundraising literature and merchandise 4. Collating fundraising packs 5. Assisting the Community Fundraising Department with various admin tasks.

Person Specification Essential 1. A good team player who enjoys working in a busy environment 2. Demonstrable oral and written communication skills and an ability to engage confidently and persuasively with people from diverse backgrounds 3. An organised, methodical approach to work and ability to juggle competing priorities with excellent attention to detail 4. Experience of databases, Microsoft Office and social media.

Desirable 1. Involvement in fundraising events 2. Knowledge of and/or interest in cleft lip and palate 3. Knowledge of/an understanding of the voluntary sector 4. An understanding of the use of Facebook & Twitter 5. Experience of data entry and/or data management, particularly with Salesforce or a similar cloud-based system
