Year 6 Skydiving 10.01.17

Year 6 – Skydiving 10.01.17

On Tuesday, we went on a once in a lifetime opportunity to the indoor skydiving at ifly in Milton Keynes. Throughout the exhilarating day we had to show many values such as teamwork, determination and caring. Shortly before we took flight, we watched a short video briefing to explain the basics of flight. Then the instructor showed us some basic hand signals which would help us in the air to know easily what you need to work on. To prepare for our flight we had many requirements such as ear plugs, goggles, helmets and a baggy (for more surface area) jumpsuit. Ready and suited up, we made our way to the flight room. After gathering all the courage and self- discipline and resilience we could – we stepped into the powerful wind tugonnel hearing the faint cheering of our team mates and then got ready to take flight. Adrenaline flowing through us, we entered the wind tunnel whilst being blown into the air by the forceful and powerful wind pressure. Straight away we felt safe, knowing we were in more than capable hands. Our expert instructor grabbed the handles that were attached to our suits and balanced us. The instructor showed many hand signals making sure we got the best flight possible. Then wind in our hair we prepared for Round 2! Stepping out we were filled with pride knowing that what we just did took a lot of aspiration and bravery. We felt great! After lunch, some groups took part in a creative workshop to expand our imagination. Using sportsmanship, co-operation and quick thinking we had to build an extraordinary wind powered vehicle. We then tested our abilities when racing fighting wind with wind!

Year 6 child – It was brilliant! The best thing I have ever done. I would definitely go again.

Year 6 child – At first I thought that I’d never be able to do this, I did feel a little scared but after being shown and then my friends telling me how great it was, I decided to be brave and go for it. I am so pleased that I did, it was fantastic.

Year 6 child – It blew my mind! It was amazing not like anything I have done before.

Year 6 child – My heart was racing as I thought about it, my friends encouraged me to give it a go and so I did. I will definitely go again and the instructors were very encouraging and helped us all.

Staff member on trip – It was brilliant to see the children overcoming initial concerns, showing self- motivation and discipline. They were constantly encouraging each other, working as a team to overcome their personal barriers to participate in this unique experience.

Orienteering

Year 2 children

I liked when we hunted for the clues.

I really liked using each of the clues to help solve the problems with my friends. I learnt how to read a map and the points of a compass. We had to make sure our map was facing the right way.

It was great doing the games and working with my friends to solve clues.

Year 2 teacher

Enjoyed by all, provided children with physical challenges through a variety of creative, fun and engaging activities. It was well organised and pitched to the correct level to match the physical, academic and social skills of 6 and 7 year olds. It was also an excellent opportunity which allowed all children to participate in an outdoor which was safe and unfamiliar to them.

Year 2 comments

The best part was the orienteering because you learnt the popular bears names. We could do this for other things in school. I liked it when we had to find clues and read them out. I also liked working as a team. It was nice to be altogether as a year group. My favourite part was the games, the fox and the rabbits game was good fun.

Year 5 girl – When we were running around it was fun because we had a map and it was like a treasure hunt. I want to go again.

Year 5 girl – it had a sense of adventure to it.

Year 5 girl– I liked it because we can all show cooperation as a team and we also got lots of exercise because we were running around.

Year 5 boy – it was really fun because it made us work together.

Year 5 boy – I really liked it because we got to spend quality time with our friends doing exercise outside our school.

Cross Country competition at Woodford Halse 15.03.15

Year 3 - It was great fun, we had to run up a hill.

Year 3 – This run was hard because it was a long way and there were lots of children from other schools running as well.

Year 3 – I am glad I went because it helps me with my running club and I go to running club at school and want to do more competitions.

Year 3 – Woodford Halse, I liked it when I had to jump over a little stream.

Year 3 girl – it was like an obstacle course because we had to do different things.

Year 3 – It was nervous when we were getting ready, but it now makes me want to do it again. Year 4 – I found this course very hard because you have to go up and down hills, across mud and a little stream, but it’s a race so you just keep on going.

Year 3 football sessions with the Cobblers

Year 3 girl - We learnt new skills and it was really fun to do on a Monday afternoon.
