1 Table S2 Water bodies for which data on mean length-at-age (LAA) for roach were reviewed. For each water body (arranged from higher to lower latitude), the latitude (Lat),

longitude (Lon), altitude (Alt: m a.s.l.), country, species status, Köppen-Geiger climate class and types (after Peel et al. 2007: Table S1), estimated mean annual air (Ta) and water

temperature Tw (equation 2) (both in °C), and corresponding growth degree days (GDD: equation 7) are provided. Mapping of water bodies in Fig. 1.

9 Table S3 Roach populations for which mean LAA data (fork length: FL, mm) and/or von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) parameters were reviewed. For each population, identified by water body (codes in Table S2) and, whenever applicable, sampling period/location/author/reference study/morphotype, the type of length (L) used (FL; SL = standard

length; TL = total length; ? = not reported and taken as FL by ‘judicious choice’), the VBGF fit (F = Fitted; O = Original) and corresponding parameters (FLinf, K, t0), the growth index (GI: Hickley and Dexter 1979) and indication of the semi-quantitative classification into ‘low’, ‘average’ and ‘high’ growth (Z-RP: after Zivkov and Raikova-Petrova 2001) are provided. Secondary source studies are indicated as fide. A dash ‘–’ indicates: for Fit, a population for which fitting was not possible due to 6 or less mean LAA data points; for the VBGF parameters, their absence due to either insufficient number of LAA data points or ‘linear’ growth; for Age, lack of data from source study (with number of dashes equal to age classes in corresponding population).
