Dear Parents/Guardians,

Project Reach is a youth and adult-run, drop-in center and anti-discrimination/social justice training space which brings together young people from around New York City and beyond, who would otherwise never meet.

On Wednesday, May 31st Council Member Debi Rose, New Dorp HS, Staten Island Technical HS and Project Reach will host an important, 1-day, intensive, cross- community, Anti-Discrimination Training designed to train students to identify, examine, and understand discrimination – personal, institutional, systemic, and global – and develop interventions which proactively challenge bias, bullying, and discrimination in their schools and communities.

Your child, ______, has been selected to be part of this exciting awareness and skills-building endeavor. Schools and organizations invited to participate include those whose teachers, counselors and staff attended a 1-day Anti- Discrimination Training for educators which took place on May 25th.

The goal of this Training is to create community/school-based, Anti-Discrimination Teams of students and adults, who are equipped to address inter-group tensions and discrimination through peer interventions, awareness-building workshops, and youth and adult-facilitated trainings.

The Training will be Wednesday, May 31st beginning at 8:30am and ending at 4:00pm and will be held at the New Dorp High School, 465 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, NY 10306.

The Clinic will include interactive workshops and critical group discussion with topics covering discrimination (race, class, gender, age, sexual orientation, immigrant bias, etc.), bullying and a range of social justice issues.

If you have any questions, please call us at (917) 749-6116 and thank you for your time and support of all of our youth communities.

Sincerely,

Don Kao
