Preparing Your Classroom for Summer Break

Before you say goodbye to your classroom, do these things first so that technology inventory can be stored or secured for the summer break.

Safely Storing Technology Equipment for Summer

 Back up ALL of your important info onto your part of the shared directory OR a jump drive and keep that with you during the summer months.

 Clean out all old emails from Outlook. (Include all sent files.)

 WRITE DOWN your login password and your Outlook password in a safe place where you will remember to look in the fall.

 Remove all discs from student and teachers computers/laptops.

 Power down ALL electronic equipment (computers, laptops, overhead projectors, LCD projectors, interactive whiteboards, iPads, printers, etc.) AND unplug from the outlet.

 Remove all paper AND ink cartridges from printers. Store used cartridges in ziplock bags.

 Bundle all cords, secure them with a band or tie, and place inside a plastic storage bag that is fastened to the back, top or side of the device with tape. (Additional tip: Write on the bag which device the cords are for with your name and room #, just in case it gets separated.)

 Dust and clean fan vents for computers and all electronic equipment before covering with large trash bags to keep out dust and moisture. Whiteboards should be covered with an old sheet or with newspaper or newsprint. Make sure keyboards are also covered.

 Store CD players/headphones, calculators, iPads, remote controls, clickers, etc. – things that could easily “walk” away in a file cabinet or locked closet.

 Remove batteries from any electronic equipment (noted above) and store in a ziplock bag or in the case provided with them.

 Check your inventory list to make sure all tagged equipment is still in your room. Let your tech/inventory person know if something was picked up by the techs or is missing.  IPads should be stored in one central location for the summer months. Get with your school’s inventory contact to see where they will be stored.
