Position Title: Farm Helper/Milker Department: Farm Reports To: Farm Manager Date: November 2008 Reviewed: September, 2014 GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Farm Manager, responsible for assisting with general farm duties in accordance with established policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*  Picks up and hauls trash for the Nursing Home.  Performs a variety of farm related work, including milking and feeding cows, planting and harvesting crops, feeding pigs, chopping corn, cutting wood, and hauling sawdust.  Performs general maintenance and repair of farm related equipment.  Operates a variety of Department equipment, including tractors, manure spreaders, wood splitter, chainsaw, mower, milking machine, and milking pipeline.  Supervises Farm-assigned Inmates in assigned tasks, as directed by the Corrections Superintendent.  Picks and delivers vegetables from the garden for the Dietary Department.  Assists the UNH Cooperative Extension with farm related activities, including hay rides and pumpkin picking.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Promotes and maintain positive community relations.  Overtime may be mandated, as necessary, at the discretion of management.  Performs other related duties as required.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED: Duties require knowledge of farm work equivalent to completion of a high school diploma and one to three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in farming. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the work performed. Knowledge of farming and its associated work procedures and methods.

continued... Farm Helper/Milker Page Two SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED ( continued ): Ability to operate farm equipment. Skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in work including but not limited to tractors, manure spreaders, wood splitter, chainsaw, mower, milking machine, and milking pipeline. Ability to lift heavy objects and to work continuously under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Must participate in education to attain 30 hours of training each calendar year.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This job may supervise Inmates in the performance of routine farm related tasks. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent and extended periods of outside work, subject to all weather conditions and extremes. Continuous walking, standing, climbing, and frequent periods requiring sustained, uncomfortable physical positions. Regular and sustained periods of strenuous physical exertion, requiring the ability to lift, carry, and position heavy objects up to 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and techniques. Operates equipment that causes loud noise levels and high vibrations. Exercises caution when operating heavy equipment.
