CAP Requirements for new member Glider Pilots

1. Join CAP. You will need to join a unit. For now we are using unit charter number SWR-TX-176 (7-6 Air Cavalry Composite Sqdn., in Conroe TX. www.7-6aircav.com

2. Get CAPID Number

3. Establish your SAFETY PARTICIPATION, by participating in MONTHLY CAP safety meetings. The new CAP Safety regulation (CAPR 62-1) requires all members to participate in monthly safety meetings. If members miss the monthly meetings, they can be sent a read file, (or read The Sentinel themselves) which they confirm in writing they have read (e-mail). At least one safety meeting per quarter must be a face to face meeting (F2F). A conference call meets this requirement. The members "Safety Participation" must be recorded in WMU by the unit safety officer. Minimum monthly safety review is coverage of the CAP's The Sentinel monthly safety publication which may be found at http://level2.cap.gov/index.cfm?nodeID=5182 SM Doug Camden is the TX176 Safety Officer and all participation must be recorded and input in WMU by him.

4. Go to www.capnhq.gov and log in and establish your eServices password

5. Go to eServices CAP Utilities / My Favorites (left hand side) and select CAP Online Exams Under LINKS TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES, select New Member Training – complete all the requirements

6. Go to eServices CAP Utilities / My Favorites (left hand side) and select My Operations Qualifications/National Reports, go to Pilot, and under FAA Requirements enter all your FAA qualifications, (BFR, Licenses, Ratings, Medical-if applicable). Your Pilot Information File (PIF) at 7-6 Air Cav must contain copies of these documents

7. Prepare for your CAP F5 –G checkride by doing the following:-

a) From eServices select CAP Pubs and Forms, select Indexes, Regulations and Manuals, and down load CAPR 60-1 CAP FLIGHT MANAGEMENT, under Pamphlets, download CAPP 52-7 CADET ORIENTATION FLIGHT SYLLABUS. Under Forms down load and print a copy of the CAPF5G CAP Pilot Flight Evaluation-Glider. If you will be flying AFROTC cadets also go to Other and download the FY09 AFROTC/AFJROTC Flight Orientation Program. Read these documents, you will need all of these for your check ride, and for taking the tests in 7e.

b) From the CAPR 60-1, copy Attachment 1 STATEMENT of UNDERSTANDING, complete and sign this document.

Page 1 of 2 1 Oct 2008 c) From the CAPR 60-1, copy Attachment 4 GLIDER QUESTIONNAIRE, and complete this for the S 2-33A using the POH.

d) Go to eServices CAP Utilities / My Favorites (left hand side) and select My Operations Qualifications/National Reports, go to Checkrides/Questionnaires, Glider, and enter the dates from 7b and c above. Your Pilot Information File (PIF) at 7-6 Air Cav must eventually contain copies of these documents. You will need them for your CAPF5-G checkride as well as your FAA qualifications and log book.

e) Go to eServices CAP Utilities / My Favorites (left hand side) and select CAP Online Exams Under Standardization & Evaluation take and pass the CAP Form 5 Annual Examination – Glider and the Orientation Pilot Exam – Glider Print out the certificates and take them with you to you check ride. Your Pilot Information File (PIF) at 7-6 Air Cav must eventually contain copies of these documents.

f) Schedule and complete your BFR / F5G check ride with the F5 Check pilot.

g) After completion go to eServices CAP Utilities / My Favorites (left hand side) and select My Operations Qualifications/National Reports, go to Checkrides/Questionnaires, Glider, and enter the dates of your F5G checkride. Check Pilot, select it as an initial and annual, check also the Cadet Orientation Demo to Check Pilot, and Instructor/Check Pilot Evaluation if appropriate, and submit these items for validation.

h) Pass copies of all your documents to 1Lt Ed Toohey for your PIF. All the above steps except 7b are repeated annually

8. The following is a one off requirement. Take and pass the FAA FAAST Team on-line courses “Maneuvering: Approach and Landing” and “Normal Approach and Landing” The courses are available online at http://www.faasafet y.gov/gslac/ ALC/course_ catalog.aspx free of charge. Online registration may be required for those not already registered with the FAA FAAST program. Pass on you certificate numbers to 1Lt Toohey.
