Richard’s Lesson

What’s your stock in?

A good check to see if you’re built on substance… Where do you run to when things go bad? The guy on the movie found his foundation was unstable and he ran to drugs… and then built his foundation there… it didn’t satisfy!

John 16:33 He’s the only one reliable to run to! He alone has overcome.

If your foundation is Jesus… not even death can destroy that foundation. John 6:40

Discussion Questions:

Romans 8:35-39 - Nothing can Separate us from the love of Christ!

Have you ever thought about that?

What is your reaction to that thought?

Other things will fail… Christ won’t… EVER

But are you building on that foundation?

Do an honest evaluation… what does your time, energy, efforts and actions suggest is your foundation?

It’s a Crazy Love that God has for you… How’s your love for Him? Is it purely emotional, or simply knowledge… or does it show up in your life? Ryan’s Lesson

- Do you act two different ways? One worldly… One “Christian” - Do you see how the guys testimony started with him saying “no” and telling them its wrong… then later slipping into doing it himself… started slow (friends influence). - Are you two faced? - Committed to other things more than God? - Eventually his commitment changed. - He was a Hypocrite… Jesus hated Hypocrisy and still does today! - Jer. 7 - Their rituals weren’t what they did… Hypocrites.

Discussion Questions:

- Did you get caught off guard that Theology is actually important to a Christian walk… “Messed up theology results in messed up living.” - Before this did you think Theology was for Pastors or Seminary students? - Is your view of God small? o If it is something else will be big… Cravings, Sins./Addictions or Fears. - Do you know what God is like… or are you living off of what you “imagine” God is like… He has made Himself known… Our imaginations tend to lie! o Give an example of how your imagination that “ran wild” but you were way off. - What can you do to start learning proper theology? (study, listen to sermons on theology, read their Bible).

Richard’s Lesson

- Do you see how a non-Christian dating relationship brings someone down? - Are you justifying loving someone more than God? o Basically are you lying to yourself and God? o That person is an idol! o Have you been broken over this but have justified going right back to it? Like a Dog returns to its vomit?! - Don’t separate your dating issues (or any sin issue for that matter) from a God issue… Life is about glorifying God… If you believe in God, that should be how you live daily (in other words your belief about God changes your attitude towards life, sin and your specific life details). - Don’t mistake something hear… God doesn’t need your glory… and above that, without His work of grace in you, you can’t even glorify Him! - Acts 17:24-25 -

Discussion Questions:

- Does it boggle your mind that God is unlimited?! o It should, because you can’t understand what’s that’s like… to be The Cause… The Creator, who stands outside of time and space (both creations of His)! That’s nuts right! o Try to think on this… o How does this effect the way you view yourself… or the things you face daily? o Have you ever thought about how God is everywhere (Omnipresent)? (John 4:24; Jeremiah 23:23-24) . You can’t hide from Him. o Have you ever thought about how God is all-powerful (Omnipotent)? (Jeremiah 32:17, Job 42:2) o Have you every thought about how God knows everything (Omniscient)? (Job 37:16) - All of this is revealed in His word, that we might know Him and relate to Him properly (a right relationship, only available through Jesus… as there are wrong ones with God). - The Bible and what it teaches about God (the substance of theology) are a gift of knowledge… They are the truth about life and about God and about eternity… o Truth about this will set us free and lead us in The Way (narrow as it may be). But that all starts in a proper understanding of His Word and ultimately who God IS (not we want, imagine or feel Him to be).

Jon’s Lesson

Have you ever thought “God isn’t real… I mean look at the pain and bad stuff that He allows?!”

Dwelling on bad brings us further down.

Have you ever “cut” to escape the pain or to feel alive?

Have you ever been forced by parents to go to church and not get anything out of a message?

Have you ever given over your burdens to God?

Cast your burdens onto Jesus for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

Discussion Questions:

- Romans 3:23 – We broken God’s law… God hates sin… o Physical death and spiritual death. - Colossians 3:6 (explain His wrath comes from His righteous anger). - Do you compare yourself to others around you or a perfectly Holy God? o Everyone is found a sinner before God. o Everyone is therefore under wrath (and deserving of Hell)… not just “the bad person” o The fact is that you are the bad person… if it weren’t for Jesus stepping in… taking the wrath and covering you with His righteousness… which allows you to stand right and pure before God… Only by faith in Jesus (make sure you’ve placed your faith in Jesus and not your “goodness”!). - Did you find it crazy that he suggested that in order for God to be Holy He must hate sin and punish it? (He did punish it for the believer… Jesus) - Ask them to define “atoning.” Like “the atoning death of Jesus.” o = to make amends for wrong that has been done. o Jesus’ atonement “brings us back” to God or restores us (our disrupted relationship). - Substitionary Atonement of Jesus… The OT sacrifices were shown as the picture of this. Something or in this case someone can take the wrath for you (remember that the wrath demands death… blood… the sacrifice of a life was necessary). o Now do you get why Jesus was called the “Lamb of God” that takes away the sin of the world? John 1:29 - Romans 5:8 – Amazing to think on. - How are we made right? Only by Jesus!

Jon’s Lesson

- Ever been mad at God? - Ever Start strong and fade after like Josiah? - Josiah shows a disturbing thing that a lot of youth do… When things get bad instead of running to God we think God doesn’t care… How dare we?! > Think about how much He cares… > Think about the struggles He went through for you! > How can you ever question whether or not He cares?!!! > Or we trust God for salvation from sin and victory over death, because He conquered it… and yet we don’t think He’s able to help or situation or is watching over us? > What is your faith in? My faith is in a God that cares, that is there, that knows my pain, that is my safe place, that gives victory and has what is good planned for me (I trust Him therefore, He always knows best and has a plan). - If that is you… repent today! Only God can deal with your sins… sweeping them under the rug and hoping your “good” outweighs it does nothing but save it for the day when you meet God… Repent today! - 1 Peter 2:24, Romans 4:25 (Jesus took our penalty on the cross as our substitution, He atoned for our sin… We then are to live as we have been declared… righteous! Are you?)

Discussion Questions:

- Did you notice in Josiah’s testimony it was his church friends caring for him that He experience God’s love and was brought back? Who have we ignored? Contact them tonight! - You notice when he came they rallied around him and prayed? Do you do this when someone comes again that hasn’t been in youth for a while? - Did you notice that Josiah separated himself from his old friends and that is when he started living a changed life for real? (Bad company does corrupt good character 1 Cor. 15:33). - Whenever he was tempted to go back to drugs, etc… he got people to pray for him… do you ask for help? Or are you to proud to admit that you struggle? Pride is mostly closely liked to Satan… is He deceiving you? Be humble ask for help and prayer. - Are you in the wrong… the only way to be made right is through Jesus. - Walk in the new life He has made available (He rose from the grave and we too are no longer dead in our sins, but alive to live for God!)

Jon’s Lesson

Morgan: Battle between sin and living for God was full on… truth is she may have accepted God, but her reality wasn’t changed… She still loved the world… sure God brought here back (he who started the good work will see it to completion)… but she was spurning the Holy Spirit and chasing after the world. Its like she made a commitment of love but wasn’t in love with God… here “old love” was still dominating here lifestyle.

You’ll maybe remember she said that she was after instant gratification. Some of you commit to God on this high, and thought that’s how it always will be. The truth is the joy runs much deeper than a high… and can only be achieved with a steadiness with God.

Being a Christian doesn’t mean living some kind of fun ride. It can and will be a tough ride, but we always have help on the road, we know where we’re going, have a road map to avoid wrong paths and our destination is fabulous!

What have you been up to? Playing in the world… come back for good! Repent you sinner… Claiming and Shaming His Holy Name.

2 Cor. 5:17 Be that new creation!!!! Be sanctified daily into His image!

- “If you’re saved by grace, you’ll also begin to be changed by grace.”

Discussion Questions:

- Where do you struggle with sin? - Are you being sanctified? Are you behaving as a new creation, who’s “old self” is to be put to death… and you walk in newness of life? o Sanctification isn’t optional (Heb. 12:14) - It’s time to grow up… are you still a baby in your walk with God? - Christianity isn’t a ticket to heaven… it’s a life marked by Jesus in every way! - If you are living in sin regularly and not changing… there is reason to question whether you know Jesus for real. Do you love Jesus and want what He wants? Do you want to be like Him? If not then maybe you’ve not met Him… for it is a life changing moment! o Ephesians 2:8-10 salvation is by grace, but we are this new creation, made for good works! That moment of repentance and salvation should change us and impact everything else! - 1 Thess. 4:3 - Ephesians 2:8-10 salvation is by grace, but we are this new creation, made for good works!

Jon’s Lesson

Who are your closest friends that you hang out with the most?

There is a cost to following Jesus. Luke 9:23

Romans 8:13 – Being sanctified is a must… but that battle will be difficult. Romans 13:14 – We have to watch our feet… what are you feeding your flesh? On the other hand and you feeding the Spirit? Strive to put on Jesus… be like Him… Notice I said strive… yes you’re in a fight (escalator… there is a sacrifice… you will tire if you try to run without the Spirit though).

Discussion Questions:

Ephesians 5:1 Make a list of what Jesus would do, if He was you?

What’s holding you back? The Holy Spirit is in you. Put to death the flesh… live in the Spirit (where true freedom is).

Be a good child of God.

BE CHANGED
