One-on-One Portfolio Reviews

Individual reviews with Patti Ann Harris will take place during the scheduled workshops and presentations. Each interview is 14 minutes, no more. Please remember that a portfolio review is not a pitching session, it is your chance to get feedback and suggestions on how to improve and/or market your work.

Portfolio Reviews are nonrefundable. These are first come, first serve. Patti Ann is accepting 10 portfolio critiques.

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR FIFTEEN MINUTES

1. Portfolios: Limit your portfolio to 10-12 printed images. No originals, please. Please limit the size of your portfolio to 11” x 14". You may include one printed dummy in the pocket of your portfolio (again, no originals), attached with string or similar implement.  Suggestions of what to include: . Children in motion . Different views of the same character . Work that shows a character moving through a story . Work that shows a cohesive style . Start with your strongest piece and end with your second strongest piece. . Name and contact info on each piece . Postcards and business cards

2. Bring your portfolio to your appointment. If you are participating in the juried art show, place your name card in your portfolio spot until you can return it to the show.

3. Be prepared…  To be timely - appointments are booked back to back. . Arrive early, so you can start on time. . Depart graciously and promptly when your time is up – others are waiting, or the reviewer is scheduled for a much needed break. . Missed appointments can not be made up or receive a fee refund.  For what your reviewer might discuss with you: . Which do you consider to be your best piece and why? . The media you use . Your background . The positive aspects of your work . The elements that require attention and improvement . Your overall presentation . Your continuity and consistency . Your subject matter . Your use of perspective and composition . Marketability of your work  To be concise.

2. Be professional…  On time  Courteous  Responsible

3. Afterwards…  Remember illustrator to art director etiquette. . Do not telephone the art director unless invited to do so – mailing addresses are in your registration packet. . You and other attendees at the conference may submit to the art director after the conference. . Refer to your attendance at the conference, your review – mention why you think your enclosed work might be of interest. . Follow any other instructions received during sessions.

Guidelines for Submitting Picture Book Dummies

Paul Rodeen will accept picture book dummies along with manuscripts from writer/illustrators. Please review the following guidelines:

Illustrators who have paid for a picture book manuscript critique with Paul Rodeen may submit a dummy to accompany the text. Please include a simple dummy that will fit into a 9” x 12” or 10” x 13” envelope—no larger! Manuscript and dummy must be received by April 1st, ,2015.
