Who can come? ANY K-12 teacher!

Deadlines: SIGN UP - put your name and school and grade level taught in the e-mail by Friday, March 7, 2008 at 3:00pm with Pavel Romero (Head ELL Tutor) via e-mail at [email protected]

Content Objectives: Participants will be able to:  Comprehend what federal and state law require for equitability serving ELLs  Identify ways in which the KY English Language proficiency standards (WIDA) can be vital tool for differentiating instruction  Integrate content and language objectives into lesson planning  Focus on differentiating instruction for ELLs through appropriate scaffolding of language and culture  Recognize the value of tapping into students’ background knowledge and building upon it.

Language Objectives: Participants will be able to:  Practice writing language objectives using a variety of resources.  Discuss language learning strategies  In writing, complete and discuss results of a federal and state regulation quiz  Discuss the essential role that culture plays in ELL students’ ability to adapt and succeed in US schools  Listen, Read, Discuss, and Write actively for the success of the PD

Judy Clevinger Scaffolding………………………Joann Clapp Various ELL Websites…………..Robin Glascock Our Professional Development will target various W-APT and ACCESS Testing…..Pavel Romero aspects of reaching out to our ELL students that the ELLA Academy has presented to us during the course Conclusion/Wrap-Up… Team Members 4:15-4:30 of the program. The PD will be presented in one of the strategies that target our ELL students, in the form of Mini Stations. Every team member will have a different topic to deliver to the participants. Each of the presentations should have 10-12 minutes before groups move to the next station. Before we begin our PD, we will provide our audience with some food and social hour. Underneath the plates we provide, we will have a color sticker to determine which groups the attendees will be placed in.
