CARE-Bangladesh invites application from qualified candidates for Strengthening the Dairy Value Chain Project for the position Program Development Officer-Livestock.
No of position, Place & Duration 1 position, based at CARE-Rangpur. The contract duration is up to March 30, 2012. (but very high possibility to extension)
Job Summary Project Development Officer-Livestock (PDO-LS) is mainly providing technical guidance and support to promote Dairy Development in SDVC project in terms of knowledge, linkage buildup, innovations and application of appropriate technologies and practices. The project developing technical knowledge and skill at community level in relation to Dairy husbandry, Cattle Breeding including treatment of common animal disease. PDO-LS will directly guide and supervise the Field Facilitator -AI (FF-AI) and contributes to staff capacity building to ensure appropriate working environment for qualitative implementation of project activities. PDO-LS will also responsible to develop producer, LHW & AI-worker training modules, organized and conduct training, develop the capacities of the participant and resource farmers of the project. He will have to play an important role in developing networks & linkage with the service providers at GO, NGO and private sectors organization level to ensure service from them.
Responsibilities and Tasks Oversee the implementation of project technical component of livestock specially AI. Network and collaboration with mainstream extension service and sources of new technologies and innovations. Facilitate to develop business viable model for different project stakeholders (producer, collector, Fodder producer, LHW and AI worker) Assist to Develop ISC and other technical materials & their orientation to the project beneficiaries Establish Artificial Insemination (AI) Service.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
Post-graduate or Graduate degree in Veterinary Science from a reputed university. 3-5 years work experience in livestock development project. Solid undertaking and knowledge of small scale farming system in north of Bangladesh in participatory approach. Understanding on right based and advocacy program and Strong facilitation skill in community mobilization, capacity building and empowerment process. Practical experience in developing training modules and conduct training program as well as workshop program. Knowledge on low cost livestock technologies and practice appropriate for small scale resource poor farm households. Knowledge on PRA/RMA tools in analyzes local market and social context, effective planning and monitoring will be treated as asset. Need assessment and have problem solving skills. Good communication skills and ability to communicate with Govt. & private service providers, market players, private sectors and others stakeholders. Comfortable to work in a dynamic team environment. Have good understanding on gender & women empowerment issues. Ability to work comfortably with rural poor women and men.

Compensation
Monthly gross salary is Taka 31,000 plus other admissible benefits as per policy.
