Committee Activities and Updates  Held final meeting of Steering Committee, June 2008.  Nurse Education Capacity Summit team will continue meeting to address nursing shortages.

Next Steps  Publish subcommittee report on non-nursing healthcare shortages  Convene “2nd generation” GWIB healthcare group with new format and mission, and regional focus.

Workforce Challenges 1. Nursing Shortages: Education Capacity Education teacher shortages – education capacity shortage:  Maryland team from Nurse Education Capacity Summit will address nurse education capacity issues 2. Non-Nursing Workforce Issues Addressed in non-nursing healthcare report:  Faculty shortages  Student access to academic programs  Clinical sites and clinical preceptors/supervisors  Prospective students in sufficient numbers, representing the diversity of the population, and with skills needed for health profession programs  Retention issues within the health professions
