PICKENS PLAN TOWN HALL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR SHREVEPORT CONVENTION CENTER

World renowned energy entrepreneur will discuss ideas for new domestic energy future on October 22

SHREVEPORT, La. T. Boone Pickens, founder and chairman of BP Capital Management, will conduct a town hall meeting in Shreveport on October 22 to present the Pickens Plan – a blueprint for reducing America’s foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives. The Plan calls for building new wind generation facilities that will produce 20% of the country’s electricity and use natural gas as a transportation fuel.

With more than $4 billion under management, BP Capital manages one of the nation’s most successful energy-oriented investment funds. Pickens also has aggressively pursued a wide range of other business interests, from water marketing and ranch development initiatives to Clean Energy, a company he founded and is the largest shareholder. Through Mesa Water, Pickens is the largest private holder of permitted groundwater rights in the United States. Clean Energy is advancing the use of natural gas as a cleaner-burning and more cost-effective transportation fuel alternative to gasoline and diesel.

A native of Holdenville, Oklahoma, Pickens graduated as a geologist from Oklahoma State University. His career has included positions at the Phillips Petroleum Co. and Mesa Petroleum, a company he founded in 1958. A life-long philanthropist, Pickens received the 2006 Horatio Alger Award and has contributed nearly a half a billion dollars to a wide range of causes, including medical research, at-risk youth, and conservation and wildlife initiatives. He currently lives in Dallas.

The Pickens Plan Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for 10:30am in the Captain Shreve Ballroom and is open to the public. For information, contact Amy Kathleen Smith at [email protected]. For more information about the Pickens Plan, visit www.pickensplan.com.
