Conservation Planner

PROGRAM STRATEGY: IMPLEMENTATION OF STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM To implement management plans that assure purposeful use and protection of the preserves and conservation areas To promote and support environmental awareness and stewardship To develop and disseminate accurate and credible information To inform and educate the public on our mission, goals and programs To provide opportunities for recreation and study of natural science To engage volunteers To increase the visibility of LCC
OVERVIEW OF POSITION Organizational role 1. Full time salary position 2. Reporting to: Director of Stewardship 3. Key Responsibilities o Preserve planning o Grant research and writing o Education and outreach
Comprehensive Roles 1. To insure that all LCC properties are managed to meet the program strategies above 2. To prepare management plans for all properties owned by LCC. 3. To be a key contact with neighboring landowners of fee simple properties.

Skills and qualities for the position 1. Knowledge of land management techniques such as invasive plant species management, landscape restoration, habitat management, access planning, orienteering, boundary identification and marking. 2. Understanding of natural systems/ecology and the ability to transfer this information to the public 3. Ability to communicate clearly and develop relationships with the public 4. Knowledge of writing management plans, easement documentation and other reporting requirements 5. Computer skills including ArcGIS mapping, digital photography, database management, and other specialized applications 6. Coordinate preserve projects with Scout organizations to completion 7. Ability to supervise the Stewardship Crew, interns, and volunteers to meet specific responsibilities and tasks associated with land stewardship as the need arises. 8. Ability to operate equipment associated with stewardship including chainsaw, DR mower, and tractor with brush mower, pickup truck, hand tools, etc.
Duties and responsibilities 1. Operational tasks Fee-Simple Stewardship Assist with administration of Stewardship operations Participate in Committee meetings and activities Record minutes for the Stewardship Committee meetings Attend municipal meetings as needed Help organize stewardship events, steward training and other activities Planning, creating, and maintaining trails and other access improvements on LCC properties Coordinate the Volunteer Land Steward program and assist with workshops Forest and land Stewardship and other maintenance activities Investigate violations of Conservancy Preserve use policy and recommend action or respond Acquire permits for property signs and kiosk installation Install signs/kiosk and other property improvements as needed Read property boundary surveys, GPS mapping and install boundary identification markers Maintain and use LCC tools & equipment and oversee use by others Report equipment issues to supervisor in a timely manner. Trash removal and other cleanup activities as needed

Easement Stewardship Assist with administration and implementation of easement monitoring program Assist with preparation of Conservation Easement baseline documents Insure accuracy and completeness of all legal records and files Communicate with and educate easement property owners including responding to requests for information Identify easement violations and report/record communications and violations Prepare and maintain/update maps and other documentation on all easement lands
Land Protection Assist Land Protection staff with identification of natural resources on project properties – site visits
Outreach Assist with internal coordination and support of interns and volunteers Assist with the education and outreach program, where appropriate Build and maintain relationships with landowners and stewards Plan and participate in events and outings
Other Activities Participate in budget development and work plan for stewardship program Participate in staff meetings, committee meetings and volunteer activities Answering phones Participate in fund raising and other events such as the annual dinner, annual picnic, etc.
IV. MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE 1. Provide documentation for development and implementation of work-plan and budget 2. Complete management tasks on preserves according to work plan 3. Assist with production of two management plans or baselines per year 4. Provide timely support for the Stewardship Department and Committee 5. Support organization of stewardship events throughout the year 6. Organize, oversee and increase volunteer participation in the stewardship program 7. Support monitoring of all Preserves for safety and accessibility 8. Assist with maintenance of Conservancy equipment and vehicles
