SCHOOL GROUPS IN 2020 SNOW SPORTS LESSONS Thredbo Snow Sports are the team you need to guide you from gentle green beginner runs all the way through to black diamond trails. There are over 200 experienced instructors from all corners of the globe teaching kids, teenagers and adults the skills you need to have fun on the slopes. As per the NSW department of education’s sport safety guidelines it is mandatory for all students to have an assessment lesson by qualified instructor(s) at the commencement of the program. It is also mandatory that all students have a two hour lesson each morning of the program. Schools are to include afternoon lessons in the program for beginner level students. There are four School group levels range from first timer to advance. Students will be divided into groups with similar ability levels with supervisor: instructor to student ratio not exceeding 1:12 In some cases groups may consist of combined levels. For example a group of 36 students will be split into 3 groups and assigned 3 instructors. Assigned instructors may change over a period for school groups that are participating in multiday lessons. If a student is not capable of the level indicated they will be moved to the level below. Note: Schools participating in the 8.30am lesson time that require rental equipment; need to arrive in Thredbo for rental collection at 7.30am. 1PM PRIOR DAY ADD ON (3 to 5 Day products only) For school groups wanting to access Thredbo lifts from 1pm prior to the first full day on all 3, 4 and 5 day school group products. A 2PM add on group lesson is required with this add on. CLOTHING ADD ON PRODUCTS For those kids who need some extra gear, simply add on clothing (Jacket and Pants) to your other products. Clothing hire add- ons can be attached to all products. Due to hygiene reasons we do not hire gloves or googles but offer a special group rate on waterproof snow play gloves and googles. Glove and google packs need to be included in the initial order. If purchasing in resort the full retail rate will be charged. • Gloves - $20 each • Glove and Google pack - $60 each LUNCH – ADD ON FOR ONLY $16 per day Lunch add on option gives you the benefit of having an assigned seating area to eat lunch. This area is located upstairs in Friday Flats Bistro. THREDBO LEISURE CENTRE – ADD ON FOR ONLY $3 per day with valid lift access You can add on Leisure Centre entry for only $3 per day, exclusive to school groups with valid lift access. Ride the longest runs in Australia, stretch out the muscles in the 50m heated pool, ride the waterslide, pump some iron in the gym (16+yrs), hit the squash courts, challenge yourself on the traversing wall and play a game of basketball. For each valid lift pass, you can add on leisure center entry. Add on leisure center entry needs to match the number of lift and lesson days. Do one or all of these fun activities, all available at Thredbo, Australia’s premier ski resort. Add Mission Inflatable for only $5.00 per person per day. Important: Bookings are essential. As there are often other groups booked into Thredbo Leisure centre it is very important to arrive at your scheduled activities on time to assure your group does not miss out. THREDBO LANYARDS INCLUDED ON ALL GROUP LIFT & LESSON PRODUCTS Thredbo will continue supplying all school groups purchasing Lift & Lesson products a Thredbo Lanyard to hold their lift pass whilst skiing or riding at Thredbo. Whilst the lanyard will protect your RFID Lift Pass, it is also a great memento to take home from your trip. Replacement of damaged or last passes will require the student to purchase a $5 My Thredbo Card. *Merritts Gondola pass excluded. GROUP BOOKING PROCESS: WINTER 2020 STEP 1: REQUEST FOR A GROUP BOOKING • Group booking requests must be received by Thredbo Guest Services: Groups no later than 3 weeks prior to the arrival date. • In 2020, the allocation of lesson times for a group booking is on a first come first serve basis. Please ensure that you book your school with Thredbo as soon as confirmed to avoid disappointment. • Booking requests must be submitted on the Group Booking Form which can be requested from Thredbo Guest Services: Groups. Please note: o Your booking request will be reviewed and you will receive confirmation of approval or request to alter lesson times. o Requested times for lessons or rental collection may not be available due to the demand of the products on a requested date, in which case alternate times or dates will be offered. STEP 2: FINAL CONFIRMATION OF A GROUP BOOKING To ensure correct allocation of instructors and the timely preparation and collection of order the following steps need to be taken: • 2 weeks prior to arrival groups must confirm o Final numbers o Lesson times o Student Names and Disciplines (Snowboarder/Skier), medication, food or drug allergies. o In resort contact. • 1 week prior to the group’s arrival Thredbo Guest Services: Groups will send an email containing valuable information to assist the group make the most of their time in Thredbo. If the booking is made through a third party the in resort group contact will be sent this information. • Payment of booking is required to be paid in full 7 days prior to arrival. • Any request to change lesson times is subject to availability. STEP 3: COLLECTION OF A GROUP BOOKING • New in 2020 - To ensure a smoother snow experience for our school groups one of our friendly staff members will greet your group at the bus parking area to hand over lift passes. The group will then be guided to their lessons, rental pickup location or to the new Merritts Gondola location. • Alternative to this, Thredbo Group bookings can still be collected from Thredbo Guest Services: Friday Flat, Jindabyne or Valley Terminal (Merritts Gondola pass orders only). Please note: o Friday Flat Guest Services collection: orders will be available for collection from 8.00am to 5.00pm daily during winter. o Jindabyne Guest Services collection: orders will be available for collection Monday to Friday 10.30am - 4.30pm and Saturday 1pm - 4pm. o Valley Terminal Guest Services collection: Merritts Gondola pass orders may be collected from staff at the Valley Terminal Guest Services. o Schools selecting the 8.30am lesson timeslot and also require rental must collect rental from 7.30am to ensure the required lesson departure time. Please note: o The Unaccompanied Minor Rental form is only required if the group is renting ski or snowboard equipment from Thredbo. So, the aim was to determine correlation between alpine ski novices’ attitude towards alpine skiing before the learning process and level of acquired knowledge after completion of structured alpine ski school program. 112 alpine ski novices (33 females and 79 males) participated in the study. All were tested on 26-item scale questionnaire for attitude evaluation and were included in 10-days alpine ski school program. After completion of ski school, all participants demonstrated eight elements of alpine ski technique which was used as a measure of acquired ski knowledge. Results showed statistically significant correlation between acquired alpine ski knowledge and attitude of ski novices towards alpine skiing (r = .36). The most statistically sig- nificant correlation was determined between the level of learned parallel turn and attitude towards skiing (r = .42). A ABS Sidewall: Industry term for a type of edge construction on skis and snowboards using high quality ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic. All-Mountain Ski: A large percentage of Alpine skis fall into this category. All-Mountain skis are designed to perform in all types of snow conditions and at most speeds. Other names for this style of ski include Mid- Fat skis, All-Purpose skis, and the One-ski Quiver. Alpine Skiing: Downhill skiing, as opposed to Nordic Skiing. Après-Ski: The day’s over – time for drinks and swapping war stories from the slopes. Audio Helmet: A helmet wired with speakers that allows you to listen to music while skiing. Avalanche Beacon: A safety device worn by skiers, snowboarders, and others in case an avalanche traps them. The beacon transmits a signal (typically at the international standard frequency of 457khz) that rescuers can use to locate a buried person.

At the same time literature is lacking concerning ground reaction forces and pressures achieved during recreational level skiing. The aim of the present study was to determine the differences between measured forces and their distribution under skiers’ feet during performance of different elements of ski technique. Analysis of kinetic parameters was conducted on four elements of alpine ski school (snowplough, basic turn, parallel turn, short turn). Variable sample included 16 variables. In each element of ski technique analysed were 12 turns (6 in left and 6 in right side). Kinetic parameters were measured by insoles designed for pressure detection (Novel, Pedar). Results of our study suggest that in-boot pressure over outer leg rises as the turns become more complex (from basic to parallel turn and short turn). When pressure is compared between inner and outer leg, significantly lower pressure level was on an inner leg (in ratio 1:4) in all elements of technique except during short turn.

I can snowplough turn & stop but don’t & move towards making my skis parallel by Monday yet feel confident skiing green slopes pass 2 the end of my turns (10 hrs) €210 I can ski in control down most green slopes. My skis Goal: To ski in control on green & some blue Level are sometimes in a snowplough, sometimes parallel. I slopes.
