Saturday 10 June 1 – 4pm Blubber and Foy - Scotland’s First Oil Boom
Join us for a whale of a walk, to find out about the original oil boom and explore the courage and the horror of Peterhead’s whaling past. From a little- remembered Napoleonic naval battle, and a memorable solar eclipse to chasing Whales off Greenland and dodging hungry polar bears - hear the tales of Peterhead’s wooden ships and the iron men who sailed in them.

What did people in Peterhead do for entertainment in the past? From the Muckle Markets to the Five Bottles Club and riots in the theatre when amateur dramatics didn’t go too well, discover how our ancestors had fun. Discover the delights of Lady Belle and her retinue of semi-clad ladies, the uncouth goings- on at Clockie’s Hoose, Mr Arbuthnot’s fascinating collections and how to organise a respectable Victorian parade in the correct social order of precedence. Saturday 11 November 1.30 – 3.30pm Peterhead At War
Peterhead played its part in both World Wars, which left their mark in the town. Local loons served with courage, while their families on the home front played their part too. Hear stories of soldiers, sailors, spies and civilians, and a town bruised by conflict but determined to endure. From the Tom Tit disaster of 1914, the Peterhead sergeant who was very grateful for his new tin helmet, careless residents in court for blackout violations, new-fangled airships and the horrors of the Somme, to the secret goings on of Norwegian intelligence community, and the tragedy of James Street. The life of the town was changed forever by world events. A timely reminded of sacrifice and bravery - Lest we forget. Meet at the war memorial on South Road. Well behaved dogs welcome.
