Contents INTEGRATION GUIDE Barometer with 9210 Datalogger Series Introduction The barometric pressure sensor is one of Sutron’s most commonly used sensors, and is typically used in weather and airport stations. This guide will describe the proper method of connecting the sensor with the 9210 datalogger. This will apply to all dataloggers in the 9210 series. The configuration of the software will be the same for the Xpert datalogger series, but the wiring diagrams will be different. The sensor communicates via the SDI-12 protocol and can interface with any of Sutron’s dataloggers.
Sensor Options There are several types of barometers Sutron manufactures. The differences are the communication protocol used to interface with this sensor, the accuracy rating, as well as the material used to construct the device. The barometers with part numbers 5600-0120-1 and 5600-0120-2 are housed in a lightweight aluminum box, and the 5600-0120-3 versions are housed in tough plastic. Also, the 5600- 0120-3 versions come in a variety of accuracy ratings as shown below.

5600-0120-1 and 5600-0120-2 5600-0120-3 INTEGRATION GUIDE Barometer with 9210 Datalogger Series Mounting Solutions When purchasing a completed station from Sutron, the barometric pressure sensor will come already mounted inside the enclosure. The air pressure in the enclosure is the same as outside the enclosure due to vents that are mounted to the units so the barometer will always be providing accurate measurement. If just the sensor is purchased from Sutron without a whole system, then all that is required to mount the barometer would be 4 screws. If the barometer is being mounted on a metal place, like in a Sutron station, then 4 self tapping screws will be needed.
For stations that require very high accuracy, such as airport weather stations, or for stations that do not have an enclosure vent, the following parts will be required.

Physically connecting the barometric pressure sensor to the datalogger requires a three wire conductor. Typically, the sensor will be mounted in the station and pre-wired, but if just the sensor is purchased then view the diagram below. INTEGRATION GUIDE Barometer with 9210 Datalogger Series
Common Configurations The 9210 utilizes a graphical setup in order to configure the sensors that are connected. The graphical setup is a series of blocks connected to depict a diagram showing how the data is managed. A typical series of blocks would be an Input, Display, Coms Tag, Measurement, and then a Log block. With this series the sensor would be measured based on the parameters of the input block, then the value would be visible on the front display of the logger, the data tab in the graphical setup would be updated, the measurement interval is defined, and then the value is logged in the log file. Alarms can also be added to the data management series by placing an alarm block before the Coms Tag block. For more detail on how to program a 9210, use the 9210 Operations and Maintenance Manual. The descriptions below will provide a concise description of common measurement setup for the sensor measured every 15 minutes. INTEGRATION GUIDE Barometer with 9210 Datalogger Series Summary This guide has described the detailed options of the barometric pressure sensor as well as how to connect it to the 9210 datalogger.
