AdvancED Survey Results In the fall of 2013, parents, students, and staff took part in the AdvancED survey. The survey gathered feedback on a wide variety of topics impacting both Bellevue Public Schools and Avery Elementary School. Now that results are in, I would like to share them with our Avery families. As we look at the results, we will celebrate high points and reflect on ways to keep moving in a positive direction toward our school and district goals. Your feedback and involvement as parents is an integral part of this process. I would like to extend an invitation to all Avery families to join me on March 6, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. in our Media Center for a brief presentation. Survey results will be shared at the beginning of our March PTA meeting. I look forward to this meaningful time of sharing.

Breakfast and a Book Please plan on attending “Breakfast and a Book” on Friday, March 7, 2014, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:55 a.m. Students and their adult guest(s) may join Avery staff in the Library to enjoy juice or milk and a doughnut while reading a wonderful book. Students may either bring their favorite book to read or choose from books available in the Media Center. Students must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate in this event. Hope to see you there!

Hit the Books! Avery PTA has partnered with the Omaha Storm Chasers program called Hit the Books! This program is to encourage children to read and enjoy the rewards of reading. All your child has to do is turn in their reading hours on the Reading Blaster calendar that comes home every month. If your child turns in their form for the next two months they will receive some cool prizes and a BERM TICKET VOUCHER FOR A BASEBALL GAME ON APRIL 5TH. We will also be selling discounted tickets for the family to purchase if they would like to go to the game also. Please encourage your child/children to read!

Internet Assemblies On Friday afternoon, March 7th, Completely Kids will be putting on 2 plays related to internet safety. ‘Natalie the Net Nanny’ teaches 3rd and 4th graders how to stay safe in the cyber world. Through role-plays, students learn the importance of keeping personal information and passwords private, online “netiquette,” who you can trust online, and when to get help from an adult. ‘Internet Safety Squad’ is designed for grades 5-6. This engaging and relevant play about social media demonstrates the effects of the “Viral Spiral,” how and when to get out of it and ways to avoid getting “sucked in” in the first place. The play also briefly addresses a request for a “private photo” which is ultimately declined with the help of an ally. Please discuss these important messages with your children.
