7Th Grade Practice/Tryouts 7:00-9:00 AM (Doors Will Be Open at 6:45 for Athletes)

This year is going to be an exciting Basketball season for our 7th and 8th Graders here at Timberview Middle School. Throughout this upcoming season, we fully expect our athletes to learn fundamentals and increase their knowledge of basketball while being competitive. With the season quickly approaching, there is information listed below to clarify some questions and expectations of our Hawk Basketball program this season.

Tryouts Wednesday through Friday (November 2-4th) Coaches will be evaluating and charting these skills for each participant: Ball control, shooting, passing, defense, quickness, vertical leaping ability, and knowledge of the game. The coaches will also be looking for work ethic, character, and the athlete’s ability to be coached as other factors in picking the teams.

7th Grade practice/tryouts @ 7:00-9:00 AM (Doors will be open at 6:45 for athletes) 8th Grade practice/tryouts @ 3:00-5:00 PM (Student must be picked up by 5:15)

Students will be notified if they are not to return for day 3 of tryouts, as well as be given feedback. Posting of the teams will be done online, on the Timberview website’s boy’s athletics page. Rosters will be available the evening of the final day of tryouts on the 4th, and athletes will be listed by Student ID #. Coaches will not discuss cuts other than providing feedback and teaching points for improvement. Students not making a roster will continue in the off-season class, and are encouraged to participate in other sports throughout the year.

Practices Participation in practice is expected unless there is an excused absence which must be communicated to the coaches. If a student is at school, they are considered well enough to practice. If there is a medical reason for an athlete not to participate, they will need to provide a doctor’s note. Parent notes will be honored, but please encourage your child to participate unless they have an injury. Participation in practice is reflected in game performance. Athletes will be issued a set consisting of a practice jersey and shorts. These will be required to be worn every day.

Game Days Both 7th grade and 8th grade games will be on Monday nights usually. Please refer to the schedule for games held on other nights of the week, or weekend tournaments.

-7th grade players will report to school at regular time (8:30). Any other day 7th grade has normal practice starting at 7:00 unless otherwise communicated by the coaching staff.

-7th and 8th grade players will wear dress clothes to school.

-The first scrimmage will be Monday, November 14th vs Trinity Springs MS. 7th Grade will be at TSMS, 8th grade will be at Timberview. The first game will be on Wednesday, November 30th against Hillwood.

-The game order will be (C,B,A) throughout the entire season, at 5:00, 6:00, and 7:00. - Parents will also need to sign athletes out with a coach if they are not riding the bus back to school after a game.

-Game admission will be $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.

-Student meals on game days need to be dropped off no later than 3:15 PM in the front office. We will be offering the Which Wich box meal for game days through basketball season. This includes a sandwich of choice, chips, cookie, and bottled water. Athletes may pick up an order form in the coaches office and orders will be done for the entire season.

Parent Involvement:

-Please be positive and supportive at the games, even in the heat of the battle. We ask that you represent Timberview Middle School in being courteous with opposing fans, as well as the officials who are doing their best to make the right calls.

-Communication: We ask that if there are major concerns that arise during a game, you wait until the next day before contacting that coach to set up a meeting, and we will be glad to discuss issues with you at a later time.

-All practices are closed since they are held inside the school.

-Playing time and comparing students are not appropriate conversations… the coaching staff will be happy to meet with you about your child and their development as an athlete.

Athletics Expectations:

-It is a privilege, not a right, to be in athletics… students will have to earn that right by their actions.

-Athletes who are continually a discipline problem or not taking care of their grades can be removed from team at the coach’s discretion.

-Students not passing all classes during a 6 week period will not be allowed to participate in athletic events until they are passing, minimum of 3 weeks (UIL rules), however they will still be expected at practice every day.

Other Communication

-Check the athletic website and parent emails for all correspondence.

-In case of schedules, times, or venue change, we will post that information to the website, send parent emails, and/or have students call home.

-Please do not hesitate contacting any of the coaches with your questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support of Timberview Hawk Basketball! Let’s have a great year!
