Hershel Lee McDaniel

IOWA PARK - Hershel Lee McDaniel, 68, a resident of Holliday for 30 years, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, in Wichita Falls.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at First Baptist Church, Holliday, with the Rev. Daryl Sewell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Holliday Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.

Mr. McDaniel was born March 7, 1936, in Biardstown, Texas. He married Leoma Vandever on Aug. 14, 1959, in Paris, Texas. He served 10 years in the Navy and Army, serving in the Korean Conflict and Berlin Crises. He was in the 49th Armored Division of Fort Polk, La.

He was a retired truck driver and salesman for the National Linen Company. He was a past member of the Holliday Lions Club, the Holliday Fire Department as training officer and fire chief, and past Lt. Governor of the Optimist Club of Holliday. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holliday.

Survivors include his wife, Leoma (Vandever) McDaniel of Holliday; three daughters, Deloras "Dee" (McDaniel) Godby of Wichita Falls, Freda McDaniel and Bina McDaniel, both of Holliday; a son-in-law, Fred Godby of Wichita Falls; a son, Hershel Wayne McDaniel of Henrietta; three granddaughters, Jennifer Godby of Iowa Park, Kami McDaniel of Wichita Falls and Emily Lidecker of Holliday; three grandsons, Chase Wilson of Holliday, Lee McDaniel of Henrietta and John Godby and his wife Jessica of Oklahoma City; a great-granddaughter, Taresa Godby of Oklahoma City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas McDaniel, his mother, Mary Ann (Rogers) McDaniel; two brothers, Wilburn McDaniel and John Preston McDaniel; and a sister, Gwen Gentry.

The family will be at Dutton Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, P.O. Box 4804, Wichita Falls, Texas, Holliday First Baptist Church Youth Center, or Bowman/Holliday Volunteer Fire Department.
