LASER Visioning Activity
Themes Level of communication Science needs to be District level focus – lots of competing interests Who has the power in the district Money – where do funds come from?
Next Steps Moving Forward
Progression for training LASER/districts create a “training matrix” describing what training a science teacher should have Develop/communicate next level of training if I’ve already had a initial training
Improve IU Training Experience: Create guidelines for an “enhanced” experience for a second or third new kit. Districts collect and communicate groups’ needs to trainer before the training Ask trainer to assess group and start where the group is at Design/provide “After I’ve had kit training” follow up experience
Training Evaluation feedback loop: LASER Communicates survey results to dist/building folks Follow up/implementation check in a few weeks into teaching the kit, District communicate follow up check in/feedback to LASER
Communication at a teacher level from each teacher Communication electronically, what teachers need, what administrators need (survey monkey)
Science mentor program to continue moving science forward with new teachers Create program description for building science coaches/mentors/science leaders
Good LASER plan in place in all districts LASER hosts plan updating work-day
Regional network with dollars and assets Build awareness of reasonableness of amount of training per teacher all contents Build awareness that competing programs are not necessarily competing, but rather can be intentionally supportive of each other Build Science community awareness (ie. MEC) Create a LASER plan for the alliance
Support Science PLCs: LASER research best practices in PLC support Buildings gather info about PLC current state-communicate to LASER Develop PLC support plans
