Big Loop Competitive Schooling Clinic and Ride

Big Loop and Chandelle Farm are pleased to sponsor a competitive trail riding clinic with Carl Lange. The Big Loop is a 1,700-acre private preserve, tucked in the hills of southwestern New York, just 20 minutes south of Olean on the NY/Pennsylvania border. This refuge abounds with the beauty of nature, and features well-marked trails, natural jumps, water and open gallop areas. A scenic and easy ride to Big Loop and a scenic and interesting ride at Big Loop.

Carl competes all over the northeast and counts in his wins the 2002 Green Mountain Horse Association’s 25 mile ride. Learn the basics of competitive trail riding, including rating your horse, horse health and competition tips, how to condition your horse, monitor the horse’s health and how to set your pace. You will receive handouts to take with you.

The ride will be between 10 and 12 miles, on varied terrain, including water crossings, with well marked trails. The judging is based on several different factors, among them the best time and condition of your horse. At the end of the ride, you will be required to lead your horse at a trot in a straight line and in circles to the right and left, so practice that before the clinic.

Big Loop has ample parking should you want to come the night before and camp, however, it is not a campgrounds (no electric or sewer hookups). Limited stabling is available for $25/stall. Early reservations for stalls are recommended.
