The ride departs at 8:30 A.M. This is 24 mile flat, leisurely ride that is suitable for beginners. It takes us by the Oakland Airport and along the San Francisco Bay to Alameda where we stop for coffee and snacks. Great skyline views of San Francisco can often be seen from the waterfront. Once you turn around you have the option of practicing pace-lining (if there are enough riders) or traveling at faster speeds and improving bike handling through the curvy course. Once you add these weekly rides to your schedule you will see marked improvement on your weekend rides. Meet at 5:45 P.M., ride leaves 6 P.M. sharp in the upper parking lot at Cull Canyon Park. Saturday, October 10 5/T/60+ Mount Diablo via Norris Canyon The Mount Diablo Challenge was the previous week, now let’s do our own! Meet at the Rite Aid at 3848 Castro Valley Boulevard. We'll climb Norris Canyon, drop into the Valley, cruise to Danville on San Ramon Valley Boulevard, and then take Diablo Road to the base of Mount Diablo. Ride returns via Crow Canyon/Alcosta/Norris Canyon to San Ramon Valley Boulevard, then south to Dublin Boulevard/Schaefer Ranch Road. The ride includes over 5000 feet of climbing. Saturday – Sunday, October 17-18 3/T/78-73 Aptos Overnighter Ride Meet at 7:15 A.M.; Depart at 7:30 A.M. Meet at the Bayfair Shopping Center parking lot near PetsMart just off Hesperian Blvd. in San Leandro at 7:15 A.M. on Saturday. The ride departs at 7:30 A.M. sharp. The SAG driver will pick up your overnight bags there. There is a fee of $10 per person to cover gas and expenses for the SAG. Call the Best Western Sea Cliff Inn in Aptos, CA to make a room reservation for October 17th. The telephone number to call for reservations is 800-367-2003. Some rooms have been reserved in the name of “Cherry City Cyclists” (booking #4012) at a discount rate of $110 for 2 queen beds. Double up with another rider if you wish. Make your reservations before September 17th to get the discount. The ride goes across the Dumbarton Bridge, through Palo Alto, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos (lunch stop), past the Lexington Reservoir, and over the Santa Cruz Mountains to Aptos. Sunday, October 18 3/T/50 Lafayette-Benicia-Carquinez Scenic Drive Loop Meet in front of Sharp Bicycle, Lafayette at La Fiesta Square 8:45 am; we roll out at 9:00 am – very close to BART. A scenic ride North from Lafayette to Martinez, then across the new bike bridge to Benicia (food stop) then back across the Carquinez Bridge, and along the Carquinez Scenic Drive to Martinez and back to Lafayette. A fairly easy ride with no major climbs – the biggest hill is Reliez Valley. Bring H20, snack & money for food. Rain cancels. This breath taking ride leaves from the intersection of 3rd Street & Coleman Valley Rd. in Occidental at 8:30 am SHARP!! (Allow 2 hrs travel time from the Bay Area to Occidental). Please note that the pace will be steady with several steep climbs (Kings Ridge Rd, Hauser Bridge Rd & Meyes Grade Rd) on this ride. Join Michael and me for a fun end of the season ride through the wine country of Lodi with stops at several of the areas wineries. There are 2 routes: The Tour (50k = 31 miles) stops at three different wineries, crossing the picturesque Mokelumne River twice. The Grand Tour (100k = 62 miles) features longer loops through the beautiful vineyards, passing by numerous private wineries and includes some rolling hills of the Mokelumne River basin.
