Job Description
Title: Project Manager (Justice for Survivors)
Responsible to: Chief Executive
Main Purpose: To project manage a new initiative which aims to divert survivors of a brain injury away from the criminal justice system and provide support for survivors who require legal representation.
Key Tasks:
1. To assume responsibility for designing, maintaining and improving the administrative procedures of the Justice Project.
2. To develop a survivor’s photo ID card, which will enable survivors of a brain injury to provide evidence of their (often hidden) disabilities.
3. To finalise the application form for survivors wishing to obtain a survivor’s ID card.
4. To work with appropriate colleagues to develop a comprehensive database of survivors issued with the ID cards.
5. To undertake appropriate checks on those applying for the survivors ID card to ensure they are entitled to the card and thus maintain the integrity of the project.
6. To undertake all the administration required to issue cards to those entitled to them.
7. To initiate the project within the Headway movement through a rolling programme of visits to local groups and branches with the objective of maximising the participation of survivors in the scheme.
8. To plan and execute the public launch of the initiative with the objective of maximising the number of participants in the scheme who are not recruited via the Headway Network.
9. To secure the support of Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), Police Commissioners, the Crown Prosecution Service, Chief Constables, the Home Office, the Ministry of Justice, the Judicial College, Magistrates Association and other appropriate agencies on an ongoing basis.
April 2015 10.To develop a working knowledge of the research evidence which demonstrates the link between brain injury and offending and the prevalence of brain injury among people in custody.
11.To provide basic training in understanding brain injury for police officers and others working in the criminal justice system who would benefit from it.
12.To manage the relationship with Headway’s approved provider of legal services to ensure that legal assistance is made available to survivors of a brain injury who become involved with the criminal justice system.
13.To monitor calls to the (24/7/365) legal helpline to ensure that high standards of service to survivors are maintained at all times.
14.To produce regular and detailed reports on the activities of the Justice Project, including case studies, for funders, colleagues and the Chief Executive.
15.To make a positive contribution to the team.
16.To comply with Headway’s Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies and undertake appropriate training and personal development as appropriate
17.To undertake such other reasonable tasks as may, from time to time, be deemed necessary.
