INTEGRATED CHEMISTRY / PHYSICS – SEMESTER 1
Project: Choose an element from the periodic table. Write a paper with facts about the element. Then, make a presentation (Microsoft PowerPoint, Open Office Presentation, or Google Drive Presentation) about the element and present to the class.
Things you may want to include:
Written paper 1. Symbol, name, atomic number, atomic mass, type of element (metal, nonmetal, metalloid), and location on the periodic table (does it belong to a group, such as the halogens?). 2. Date of discovery and people responsible for discovery 3. Physical properties of the element including state of matter at room temperature, melting point, boiling point, appearance, etc. 4. Common compounds it may form with other elements 5. Uses for the element and the compounds that contain the element 6. Any other interesting facts about the element
Presentation 1. Include pictures of its location on the periodic table, what it looks like at room temperature, or what the common compounds it forms look like. 2. Include summarized information of your written paper.
Requirements:
Written paper 1. Sufficient length to outline and summarize the chosen element (Hint: 1 or 2 paragraphs are not enough to give quality information on ANY element) 2. Include a Works Cited or Bibliography page; cite ALL information (Hint: do NOT use Wikipedia) 3. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE Presentation 1. Symbol, name, atomic number, atomic mass, type of element (metal, nonmetal, metalloid), and location on the periodic table 2. Sufficient length to summarize your paper (around 5 slides should be appropriate)
Grading Rubric:
Total of 40 points Written paper 1. Clear and concise ideas 2. All information cited 3. Sufficient enough information; no major information left out 4. Scientific information is correct and meaningful Presentation 1. Sufficient length 2. Includes all information needed for a well-rounded, scientific summary of an element
